dellbhai's Full Review: Cuisinart TTG-500 3.5-Cup Coffee Maker
The Cuisinart TTG-500 Two to Go Coffeemaker has been specifically developed for people on the Go, and it makes that very clear from its title. Very often people have complained about the mess that normal coffee machines cause as a result of pouring the coffee into Travel mugs and then cleaning the pot itself. The Cuisinart TTG-500 Two to Go Coffeemaker is targetted towards these people and in my assessment keeps the promise that it makes.
Whats the Product all about?
The Cuisinart TTG-500 Two to Go Coffeemaker (as you can see from the picture) uses two travel mugs to pour the coffee into instead of the traditional pot. Thereby, you can just start the coffee machine and pick the mugs and run once the coffee is done. You save yourself the process of transferring the coffee from the pot to another mug, and the headache of washing the pot. The two Stainless Steel travel mugs are each 14 Oz, have tight-fitting lids, a comfortable grip, do fit the cup holder in your car. The mugs look smart and can be easily cleaned easily (even in a dishwasher) without leaving any yucky stains.
The drips are set up such that you can either make one mug or two mugs depending on how much water you put in and how you set up the glass. The coffee maker uses disposable paper filters and the process is really simple. You can actually brew your first coffee in 5 minutes. Its has a one-touch button start button and automatically shuts off on completion.
The Pros
- The coffeemaker makes no pretences about what it is. It is a coffeemaker for people on the go and is pretty much that. I commute to work and this serves me very well. The two coffee mugs are good to go and really thats why I bought this machine.
- One of the biggest reasons I had never got a coffeemaker before was the hassle of cleaning up. The mugs are real easy to clean and the filter papers are disposable. Makes your life a lot easier.
- The coffeemaker is and looks different. I don't know about everyone, but I like to have things which are different and unusual. This defintely is not your usual coffeemaker!!
- The process is really simple and make life a lot easier. I have seen coffee machines which a lot more complicated and painful to maintain.
- It is very light-weight and portable, makes it easy to move it around.
- It makes good coffee, but the taste of the coffee depends more on the powder you use :-)
The Cons
- There is not automatic timer in it. That means you need to start the coffeemaker every morning, rather than it starting by itself every morning.
- There is no hot plate in it. The coffee mugs are insulated, but are not as efficient as a hot plate in keeping your coffee warm. So, if you are the kind who likes drinking their coffee an hour after it is made, this might cause you some problems.
- The price might be a little expensive for a product with some key features missing. I saw Mr Coffee coffeemakers for less than 40 bucks which have some of the above features. Some people who prefer these features might feel ripped off by the prices. I was quite surprised that they had initially priced it at $80.00 ($49.95 - the price that I paid hardly seemed cheap).
Summary
All in all, I think if you are looking for a simple, different coffeemaker and you are often on the run and if you hate washing your pot, go for this. If you have all the time in the world and want some of the missing features, then you have other choices in the market place.
