Pros: Sews beautifully and does three top and bottom coverstitches.
Cons: Complexity may discourage some.
The Bottom Line: The machine that does almost EVERYTHING . Not the best buy for a beginner; if you're comfy with threading and want to move up, try this one, you'll love it.

| unterspan's Full Review: Bernina 2500DCET Sewing Machine |
This is one step up from the already TOL Bernina 2500 DCE. In addition to all the things you find in the DCE, this machine does three top and bottom coverstitches - a three needles stitch , a wide two needle stitch and a narrow two needle stitch) all are perfect for knits or decorative touches.
The machine drives like a well tuned car. Once you feel comfortable switching from overlock to coverstitch mode (which involves changing loopers, moving needles, switching plates, pushing a lever and a stitch dial change)you will be able to do the most amazing things. Yesterday I made a woven linen damask shell and used my regular machine for the shoulder seams only. All the edges were sewn and finished in one sweep and the inside of the garment looks as lovely as the outside.
The standard stitches, 4 thread safety, many overlocks, and a great non stretching chain are standard with any 5 thread overlock and the Bernina has them all. To change stitches you turn a dial and differential feed and tensions setting are automatic. You can still make adjustments easily with individual levers.
This machine handles silk charmeuse as easily as it handles 6 layers of heavy cotton duck. I have never seen a machine gather as perfectly or as well as this machine does. With the gathering foot you can gather a layer and attach it to a flat layer in one step. An elastic foot lets you finish edges and apply elastic in one sweep too. The cording foot lets you add piping or pearls to edges easily. Special decorative thread guides let you apply heavy threads to the edges; I've tried thin gold corning with a narrow hem and the result was fantastic. Pearl cotton is even easier.
And as if all these features were not enough, the machine has a free arm for serging cuffs and pant legs or small pieces. I almost expect this sophisticated machine to make my dinner while I sew.
Threading must be practiced - practiced - and practiced more to feel comfy with it and the manual has to be carefully read and you will want to mark important pages. But if you do your homework with this machine you will get gorgeous results and find you are sewing better than ever.
