Pros:Easy to thread. Quiet and smooth operation. Cutting blade is easily swung away.
Cons:Lacks the sliding fabric guide thats comes with in the 2000AT model.
The Bottom Line: Great serger for the beginner basic needs user.
Serging Experience: None. This is my first serger

Sewing Experience: 20 years. Mainly garments but will do some crafty projects.
Why: Wanted professionally finished seams and I liked the White Brand because of its association with Viking sewing machines. I also chose it because it came with an instructional video and some extra feet (blind hem, elastic and gathering)
Where: Bought it at my local JoAnn Fabrics (I practically live there) because it was convenient and they offered free classes.
I love this serger! I don't know how I've gotten along all these years without a serger! After viewing the video once I was able to thread the machine and apply the techniques described. By the second day I was able to alter a knitted top and then start the construction of a pair on khaki pants. Imagine what I could do if I took a class! (Which I will do eventually).
Thread: I just use the regular sized poly/cotton all purpose thread from my sewing box and have gotten beautiful results. The serger comes with various spool adapters so you don't necessarily have to by special spools.
Blind Hem Foot: Not entirely necessary. I got similar results by using another of the techniques described in the video
Swing Away cutting blade: Excellent option for sewing garments because I often have to adjust the fit and I don't want to cut away extra frabric I may need.
