| yuckapoo's Full Review: Bodum Chambord 2032 6.34-Cup Coffee Maker |
I recently purchased a Black & Decker Personal Coffeemaker with Travel Mug -- it came with a stainless steel travel mug. It caught my eye because I'm a daily coffee drinker and no one else in my house drinks it. It doesn't make sense for me to brew a pot for 1-2 servings. And for the price of a travel mug alone, I bought a coffeemaker AND mug!
The first thing I noticed was how small it was. It takes almost no room on my counter! It comes with its own mesh filter, so you don't have to hunt for specific -- and usually overpriced -- paper filters in the store. The way it works is as follows: You fill the tank with water, add a scoop and a half of grinds to the filter, and press a button to start brewing. It doesn't have a hot plate like standard coffee makers. Rather, when all the water is removed from the tank, it simply shuts itself off. No need to worry about accidentally leaving it on!
There are a couple of things that were pesky initially. The directions don't really say how many scoops of coffee grinds to add to the filter. I came up with 1.5 on my own through trial and error. The mug looks to be about 1.5 standard servings. Also, the water tank does not have an easily readable fill line. The body of the appliance is black and the fill line is raised black plastic. I had to feel around the top for the grooves the first couple of times I filled it, but I'm used to it now.
I've never had any trouble with cleanup or with stray grinds getting into the coffee. The lid of the travel mug is a bit tough to get off. But if it's that terrible, I'm sure another mug would fit.
I'm considering purchasing another of these for my office -- the coffee they serve there is horrible! This machine is a quick way to make the mornings bearable.

Update 03/23/04
I have purchased two more of these handy little machines... One for my single father who lives alone and has been secretly suffering through INSTANT COFFEE (blech!), and one for my office. I'm the envy of all who smell fresh coffee brewing every morning!
