| scotte1218's Full Review: Bodum Chambord 2032 6.34-Cup Coffee Maker |
I'm going to start off this review by saying that I don't drink that much coffee. For some reason, I've just never developed a taste for it. Once in a while I'll break down and have a cup but as a rule of thumb, coffee just isn't my thing. But hey, what better topic to write about for the Challenge Yourself Write Off than a coffeemaker right?? Now having said that, my wife is a different story. Not that she is a coffee addict or anything, but she certainly loves her cup of java in the morning and after a good meal out at a restaurant.
The problem with my wife is that she usually has just one cup. This means that after her cup of joe, I would sit there and watch as she poured out the remaining, perfectly good coffee down the drain. Being the cheapskate that I am, this didn't sit well with me. So while out shopping one day she expressed interest in getting a one cup coffee maker. With dollar signs flashing before my eyes at the amount of money we'd be saving on coffee, I jumped at the chance and ended up getting her the Black & Decker Brew-N-Go one cup coffeemaker.
Now the model I'll be reviewing here is the DCM18S. The added "S" meaning it comes with a stainless steel mug instead of a plastic one. This model wasn't listed to review so I put it here with the DCM18 because, with the exception of the mugs, the two models are identical.
CONVENIENCE
Folks, this product is the most convenient, easy to use coffeemaker I have ever used. Now keep mind that just because I said that I don't really like coffee doesn't mean I don't have experience making it. As luck would have it, I get up earlier than my wife so the coffee making duties often fall on my shoulders. From start to finish, making a cup of coffee with the DCM18S takes about 2 minutes. It comes with a permanent filter so no more messing around with the paper disposable ones. Just fill up the reservoir, add the coffee, and turn it on. In two minutes you will have a fresh, steaming hot cup of java. Clean up is also a snap. The mug, lid, filter basket, and permanent filter are all dishwasher safe. Just throw them in the washer or rinse them in the sink. It just doesn't get any easier.
FEATURES
For a single cup maker, this baby has plenty. The best one in my opinion is the permanent filter. No fuss, no mess, and it works very well with no coffee grounds making it into your cup. The 15oz. mug is attractively designed and comes with a contoured, easy grip handle and the bottom of the mug is tapered so it will fit into just about any car cup holder. The unit automatically shuts off so those of you who run around like mad in the morning don't have to worry that you left it on. At less than 3lbs it is very light and it's small dimensions mean it doesn't take up much counter space.
TASTE
Ok now on to the most important aspect of any coffeemaker....the taste of it's coffee. This is one area where I admit I am not qualified to say. But the ole' wifey is. And I should mention that she likes her coffee black with no cream, sugar or anything else to doctor up the taste. She absolutely loves the coffee this product makes. In fact, she has had just about everyone in my family who drinks coffee try the Brew-N-Go and not one person has had anything negative to say. If good tasting, fresh, strong brewed coffee is your thing, the the Brew-N-Go is right up your alley.
PRICE
I got very lucky and found the Brew-N-Go for $9 dollars at Wal-Mart. The price on Black & Decker's website for the DCM18S is $21.99 but I have seen it on various internet sites for around the $16-$20 dollar range. I have seen it for as much as $30.00 on some sites but that is the very high end of the scale. The DCM18, which is the model with the plastic mug, is usually a few dollars less but I have heard that coffee in the those mugs cools off rather quickly. So if you want your coffee to stay warmer longer, I recommend the DCM18S with the stainless steel mug.
OVERALL IMPRESSION
As you can tell by my review, I fully recommend this product. Those of you familiar with my reviews know that I am not the biggest Black & Decker fan in the world, so for me to recommend one of their products you know it has to be good. This was the best $9 dollars I have ever spent. Even if you drink several cups throughout the day, with it's two minute prep time, the Brew-N-Go will work for you....and you don't have to worry about drinking old, stale coffee. An attractive, easy to use, affordable, convenient coffeemaker that makes great coffee.....thats the Black & Decker Brew-N-Go.
