There is only one coffee drinker in this family and it’s not me. My husband often wants a cup in the morning but would never be able to finish a pot or even half a pot. He had a regular sized coffeemaker that has since broken and used to let most of it go to waste once he took his one cup and left for work. Now he has a Black & Decker Brew ‘N Go Personal Coffeemaker and only makes one cup at a time.
Product Details
The Brew & Go has an insulated thermal 15 oz travel mug which the brewing coffee flows directly into. The mug is beige and tapered to fit into a car’s drink holders. It also has a contoured handle to make it easy to grip. There is a snap on lid with an opening to drink through. The cup is of decent quality and this particular model comes with an extra cup. However, there is no lid on the extra one.
For about a dollar less, they sell the model with only one mug. Or you can purchase the deluxe model with a stainless steel mug for the same price. The deluxe model is advertised to be dishwasher safe including the filter. There is no such claim in the website for this model, but we’ve cleaned them in the dishwasher.
The rest of the unit is very compact and made of sturdy black plastic. The top lifts up so you can add coffee, pour in water and remove the permanent filter for washing. The filter is used over and over and is made of fine mesh. Unlike paper filters, it won’t fall apart or let coffee grounds end up in the cup. It works because he really likes the taste. All it takes is a couple of teaspoons of coffee and a few minutes to brew a single cup. It’s small enough to bring to work to keep on a desk or to use while traveling.
To use, lift the top and put in the coffee grounds. Fill the cup with water and pour in top. Place the cup in the base-it can be a little wobbly because of the tapered shape but we haven’t had any accidents with it yet—and slide the button in the on position. This large button is located in the front of the unit near the indicator light.
The unit has an automatic shut-off. It can also heat water for things like tea and hot chocolate but we just use a microwave for that. It doesn’t have a timer to allow you to set it to make coffee before you wake, but it’s so convenient and easy to use my husband doesn’t even mind. Occasionally it drips a little when it seemed to have finished but it’s not a big problem.
Final Thoughts
At around $22 this has been a good investment. It’s easy to use and very simple to clean. It pays for itself since take-out coffee, which can be expensive, doesn’t need to be purchased. It’s so simple it eliminates the need for buying coffee at the convenience store in the morning so it saves money. And since it only makes one cup at a time it saves on wasted coffee too.
I’m not a coffee drinker but find using this so easy and my husband loves it. I don’t even mind cleaning it since that’s easy too. It would make a nice gift for anyone who is single and drinks coffee or is the only coffee drinker in the family. It can be purchased just about anywhere coffeemakers are sold and there is an online catalog on their website www.blackanddecker.com.
