I like to drink my coffee after I get to work, but my company doesn't provide us with coffee. I used to make it at home just before I left, take a few sips on the drive in, and then drink the rest when I got to work, but the coffee was often lukewarm, at best, by then.
Then I got the Black and Decker Brew 'N Go coffee maker for Christmas. This machine is great! The unit is small, and easily fits in the corner of my desk. It brews one cup of coffee, directly into an insulated cup that's included with the unit. This saves the extra step of pouring coffee from a pot into a mug, and having an extra piece to clean. It loads like most Mr. Coffee-style coffeemakers - load the water in one chamber, put the coffee in another with a filter, and the water brews through the filter into a pot or cup. Standard stuff.
The cup keeps the coffee warm, though not much longer than a ceramic mug, and the rubberized coating keeps the heat off the outside of the cup, so you can grab the cup itself and not get burned. The handle juts out from the top and is open at the bottom, meaning you don't have to fit your fingers through a loop - very easy to grip, and again, you never get burned. The cup has a lid, which is nice if you want to use the cup as a travel mug. I don't need it, but I use it during the brewing process to cut down some of the noise of the water dripping into the cup. You can use a different cup than the one the unit comes with if you choose.
The unit has a permanent mesh filter, eliminating the need for paper filters. This saves on expense, and the filter is dishwasher safe, but I like it a little less than paper filters since you have to remove the filter from the unit, tap out the grounds, then rinse it in between each use - not as convenient as just throwing out a used paper filter.
There is an auto shut-off, which is nice - never any burned coffee or cup - but there is also no warmer. You have to drink the coffee right away for it to be hot, or it will go cold before you know it. The brewing process is also a little loud.
Overall, though, this is a very convenient, reliable product. It makes good coffee in the perfect amount and takes up little space. It's also priced right (mine was a gift, but I understand they run less than $20 in most places). It's been a great solution for this at-my-desk coffee drinker!
