It finally came in the mail. This machine is a little more basic looking then the last one, but a stainless steel tank just waiting to be filled with water. I anxiously unpacked it and make sure it was all there. Okay youre asking what came in the mail? My new Bunn B10B Coffee maker.
In the package
The coffee maker
The brew funnel
Deliming tool
The 10-cup carafe
Directions
I hurriedly took the Kitchen Aid coffee maker down and put it in the sink, good by and good riddance to that piece of trash. It is destined for the yard sale this weekend.
Like a long lost friend, I caressed the stainless steel tank and admired the black top that I would be filling with water in a few minutes. A quick look at the directions to make sure I remembered how to fill it and I started. I washed the carafe and funnel out carefully with warm sudsy water. I filled the carafe up and then I flipped up the lid on top of the coffee maker and poured the carafe full of fresh water into the top of the container, hey what is that little thing sticking up I wondered? Something new well I will find out in a minute or two.
The directions said not to plug the coffee maker in until I followed all the steps so I filled the carafe again with that cool, clear water and dumped it into the top. I then waited for a few minutes while I listened to the water trickling down into the stainless steel base when the trickling stopped I put the carafe under the funnel and then shut the lid down. I began to see overflow water dripping into the carafe. I then plugged up the machine and I waited 30 minutes for the water in the holding area to heat. I then flipped the vacation switch into the off position.
The machine has two switches. A switch on the base of the stainless steel holding area for the water , this switch when you flip it you see a red top and that means it is working now. You can turn this switch off when you are leaving on vacation and that stops the water and machine from working while you are gone.
The other switch controls the hot plate and is on the front of the Bunn right above where the plastic filter goes. The plastic filter is sturdy and black I add a coffee filter and
Ah, now I know what the difference is between this model and the other Bunn I had, this is the new and improved version; the water does not start dripping through the funnel until the lid is shut. The little thing sticking up is pushed down when the top is closed and then the water comes through. Neat and a big improvement over the old version. On my old Bunn I had to have the carafe sitting under the filter and everything ready before I added the water because as soon as the water started going in the coffee started flowing out into the carafe.
The new improved version: I can empty my water directly from the carafe into the top and take the time to add a filter and coffee and have everything prepared before I place the carafe onto the hot plate under the funnel and finally close the lid. Closing the lid activates the machine and that hot bubbling golden brown brew starts to filter down into the carafe.
I waited impatiently while the water heated in the tank. Thirty minutes exactly and I filled the funnel with a filter and then my coffee. I filled up the carafe with cold tap water and then poured it into the top of the machine. I sat the carafe onto the hot plate and flipped the warming switch on and then I closed that little hinged lid on top. Immediately that golden brown brew starting to drip and the aroma filled the air, intensifying my impatience to get that first cup. This machine does not have a pause and serve function but then the coffee was ready in less than three minutes so it doesnt need one.
I poured the brew into my cup and savored the moment as the first good cup of coffee I have had since March wet my taste buds.
No regrets I just love this machine and what it does for coffee. The carafe holds ten cups and has a lip on it that helps keep the water from spilling as you pour it into the top of the coffee maker. I really like that.
The stainless steel tank keeps the fresh water that you just poured into the machine and this pushes out the hot water into the funnel and right into the carafe.
I love being able to make another pot of coffee as soon as I empty the first pot. Having company that drinks coffee is no problem, the coffee makes by the time you get the cups down for your company.
If you are looking for a machine or not satisfied with your coffee maker then consider this Bunn you wont be sorry. I paid 99.00 for it and had to order online because I couldnt find it in a store close to me. I live in a small town, WalMart is the biggest store, and they dont carry them anymore.
They fixed the one thing that I had a gripe about with the old Bunn; you had to use another container to pour the water in because it came out as soon as you started pouring.
This new model B10B took care of that with a hinged lid and a looks like a little spike. The coffee doesnt start brewing until the lid is closed.
Cleaning is easy I just wipe off the coffee maker every day, rinse the pot, and funnel every time I make coffee. They recommend that you clean the machine thoroughly every three months. I use vinegar to do this and the deliming tool that comes with it.
I have to say this is a tough brand to beat. The other Bunn is still happily working at my ex-husbands home.
At this house, the coffee maker was usually used six or seven times a day so it is a tough machine.
I have no doubts that this model will do the same thing. If it doesnt perform as well, I will update but dont hold your breath a Bunn is hard to beat.
