Several weeks ago I went on a shopping adventure with a very dear friend. This shopping adventure was spawned by my desire to change some of my eating habits due to a recent diagnosis I received from my doctor.
My dear friend insisted that I needed a Juicer to take on my endeavor of lifestyle change. She often shared her experience in her optimization of health after only eating organic foods and obtaining the proper nutrients our body usually kindly asks us for. But, sometimes our bodies decide to shout out at us that we need to make some changes. That is what my body did about a month ago.
Too many long hours at work, eating on the run, fast food stops, and then those nights that I was just too tired to eat, much less cook. After 3 years of mastering the art of being a bachelorette after my son moved out, I decided it was time to reverse some of those habits and begin taking better care of myself.
Juicing had sounded just a little too woovy groovy to me over the years as I would hear various friends share their health food experiences. I have always been more of a meat and potatoes type of gal, but had even steered off of that course over the last five or six months and had developed really poor eating habits after I had started some night classes at a University several months ago.
Using a Juicer has been a drastic change for me. Instead of eating a quick, non-nutritious breakfast, I have been drinking my breakfast. These are of my own creation as I have been learning the art of juicing. A fresh pineapple, orange drink with an added pinch of powdered nutrients has proven to be a favorite for me. This is something I can make enough of to have several bottles already fixed for placement in the fridge for that quick breakfast on the run.
As the title of this review describes, I am in the process of learning the art of juicing. I am far from accomplished if making a mess has anything to do with it. I have wondered if this is just sort of developed through experience or what. I make a huge mess with the Juicer every time I use it. The design seems good for this product, which makes me come to the conclusion that it is I, the user, that makes the mess versus the actual juicer. I do find a great sense of accomplishment after I have made my own creation and have it stored in a few small juice containers in the fridge, and after I have cleaned up the mess!
The Juiceman Jr. is attractive enough to leave on your countertop if you have the space. It is advertised on the box as being “a perfect size for small kitchens”, but it takes it quite a bit of counter space if you don’t have much to spare. However, it tucks very well into corner spots. I recommend that you place it close to your kitchen sink for better ease of cleaning the device and the surrounding area around it after you have completed juicing.
The Juiceman Jr. comes fully assembled in the box. It stands approximately 12 inches high, is 12 inches in length with the bucket attached, and is about 6 inches in depth. The bucket attachment serves as a large pulp collector and fits well enough to keep juice from spraying on the counter.
Some other features you will find on the Juiceman Jr. are:
· A control panel that offers two speed control options for extraction of the juices from soft to hard produce. You don’t have to turn the device off to change speeds.
· A food pusher that pushes the produce to the blade basket.
· The blade basket is stainless steel with a micro-mesh screen that separates and stains the pulp.
· You can see through the plastic lid.
· A spout designed to cut down on mess.
· The juicer won’t turn on if you don’t have it properly assembled after cleaning.
· Clamps to ensure that the lid doesn’t let any juices out while juicing.
All parts (except the motor base) are washable in warm, soapy water. Cleaning goes a little quicker if you use a fruit and vegetable brush for the cover and juice bowl. Occasionally, the juice bowl, cover and blade basket may be washed in a dishwasher, only if they are placed on the top shelf of your dishwasher. Using a brush on the tiny holes in the blade basket has worked very well. The juicer should be air-dried only.
The Juiceman Jr. Electronic Pro was purchased by my friend who turned around and gave it to me as a gift. The total purchase price was $74.99, and has proven to be a most treasured gift as I endeavor in the attempt to change my eating styles. This has proven to be a great motivational factor for me as it is giving me many creative ways to alter my menu.
The Juiceman Jr. comes with an instructional manual as well as a step-by-step audio guide. A small booklet full of fresh juice recipes is included with a menu planner to get started. The warranty is for one year and is warranted against defective materials or workmanship.
