| deb0528's Full Review: KitchenAid KT2651X Epicurean 475 Watts Stand Mixer |
I bought this mixer in December 2001, to upgrade from my 4 1/2 quart KitchenAid. Once you're used to the tilt head, this design is not as satisfactory. You must lower the bowl & drop the beater into your bowl of whatever before you can remove the bowl. I don't like this, but I love the 6 qt. bowl, so I put up with it. The speed switch on this model is defective. KitchenAid is aware of the problem. Mine worked fine for 6 months, then started sticking. I called customer service on a Saturday; they upgraded me to the Professional model (same size, but 525 watt motor), and UPS'd it. I received it on Wednesday. Hooked up the Professional and started baking cakes & making frosting on Thursday night. All day Friday. Friday night. Then the switch jammed and wouldn't turn off. I had to unplug the mixer. I called customer service again. They're now sending me an Artisan (5 qt., tilt head) with an extra bowl. When the new switches are "perfected" they will contact me. They'll send me a new, perfect 6 qt. & I can return the Artisan. I'm very happy with their customer service, and other than the switch problem, I love my KitchenAid. I would still recommend buying one of these if you need a 6 qt. mixer. They have a one year complete warranty. If (or more than likely, when) your switch breaks, call KA; they'll ship you a new one & pick up your old one, all at their expense, and you'll get a perfected one when it's available.
