Pros: Heavy construction, large mixing capacity, good warranty service.
Cons: Repeated poor switch quality.
The Bottom Line: I would definitely not buy an Epicurian, and since they are now discontinued the only ones available would be rebuilt models or used ones.

| teresa38's Full Review: KitchenAid KT2651X Epicurean 475 Watts Stand Mixer |
I received the 6 qt. Epicurian as a Christmas gift in December of '01. I was thrilled! I loved the style, the power, the Cobalt blue color and could not have been happier, until...I went to use the mixer one day and it would not turn on despite being plugged into a good outlet. I unplugged it and tried again, again, no juice. So after a few attempts it did turn on and run normally, but this disturbed me as it was brand new. I called Kitchenaid and they were more than cordial and immediately sent me a replacement. I used that mixer, however, I must add it did fail to turn on at times also. I was frustrated and didn't bother to send it back. Then the night before Thanksgiving this year I was mixing pumpkin pie mix. Everything worked fine and I shut the mixer off and went to attend to something else I was preparing. I went to give the mix one last stir and when I turned the mixer on to "1" it came on at "10" or so it seemed. If I had removed the splash shield earlier, I would have had pumpkin over all of Western Pennsylvania! I tried again and it did the same thing. I removed the bowl and beater and turned it on, it came on ninety miles an hour, ran a few seconds and shut off. It did this repeatedly, and I was fed up. Later when I tried it again it worked normally. The warranty would have been out in ten days! The Friday after Thanksgiving I called Kitchenaid again and they informed me they "discontinued" the Epicurian model and would replace mine with the Professional model, also a six quart. So, here we go again, I've received the Professional model (which now comes in colors) in cobalt blue and we'll see...The switch on the Epicurian always felt "flimsy" to me. This new mixer's switch feels "solid". I read another review and the gentleman who wrote it had the same problems I did. He stated that the company "knew" there was a problem with the switch and that is why they discontinued this model. So I'll try this new one and watch it closely over the next year and if it goes bad, I think I would likely request my money back. I've had better luck with ten dollar hand mixers from Walmart!
