bobbie91302's Full Review: Panasonic SD-YD250 Bread Machine
I did a lot of online research and decided to go with Panasonic -- I have never had a bad experience with that company, and the reviews looked good. I ordered from Amazon, which means free shipping and good reliability. I never had any complaints about my old (10 year old) breadmaker, but I guess I had low expectations. The breads in my new Panasonic rose perfectly and the crust was crunchy. I love that they give the weight for the flour and liquid -- it's so much quicker and I think the accuracy of the measurement makes a big difference. I'm going to use the weight method (3 cups = 14 3/4 oz) with my other cookbooks.
The small size loaf can pass for horizontal, and toaster size, but the largest size is a very strange shape, sort of like a tower. But I never minded vertical bread, as long as it tastes good.
The feature that I miss is the window in the top so I could see the crust. This isn't really a major negative, because I just liked to see how pretty it was; I still wait for the time to be up before opening it. The top, instead, has a little receptacle for the yeast, which allows the yeast to be added when the contents are the right temperature.
I especially like that this machine, like my prior one, allows me to open the lid while it is mixing and beginning to knead, so I can make sure that the ingredients are completely incorporated.
