Pros: - Timer feature - Lots of options - Recipe book included
Cons: - Blade removal occasionally difficult - Beeping - Can't use timer for dough
The Bottom Line: If you love freshly-baked bread, this is your machine. Although the bread doesn't compare to fresh baguettes from Paris boulangeries, it's more delicious than store-bought bread.
polarbear22's Full Review: Panasonic SD-YD250 Bread Machine
I would make two loaves a day just to keep the kitchen smelling like freshly baked bread! I purchased this machine, the Panasonic SD-YD250, for my parents because it is going to be kept in a vacation home in location where a loaf of regular sandwich bread can cost $5 or more per loaf. Not only does this machine make perfect loaves of bread, but it makes for a more cost-effective and preservative-free version. I may just be buying another one for myself through Amazon. We had an older version Panasonic that met its demise; we're not sure how, it just simply made loaves that were too dense and did not rise sufficiently. This new version, perhaps due to the yeast dispenser, makes a much improved loaf. This one makes loaves that are just as delicious, plus there are lots of features so you can mix and match your preferences (hard crust wheat bread, soft crust sandwich bread) depending on what you have a taste for. More Pros: - Timer feature means you can set this up to work during the night to wake up to a fresh loaf of bread, or prepare it in the morning to have it ready for dinner. You set the timer in hours and minutes for when you want the loaf to be completely finished.- Options for hard or soft crust- Dough-only option (think pizza-yum!) and bake-only option (e.g. for banana bread)- There is a quick bake option, but I haven't yet tried this so I don't know how this type of loaf compares to the standard one.- Comes with an easy to follow recipe book More Cons:- Dog freaked out in kitchen when it started working in the middle of the night on the timer option- The blade gets stuck in the bottom of the machine if it is not removed immediately after taking out the bread. It's hard to pull it out right afterwards because the container is still hot; however, if I let it cool, it became stuck from the hardened bread.- Maybe I'm just sensitive to annoying noises, but I find the beeper too loud.- Does not specify if butter should be solid or melted when it is put in. I found that adding the butter in cut up pieces when it was hard was fine when it is on timer version because it sits long enough to soften. I use room-temperature softened butter when making a loaf immediately. I don't think you're supposed to use liquid/melted butter.- Wish there were more recipes I highly recommend this machine.
