Mrsfitts's Full Review: Panasonic SD-YD250 Bread Machine
I was actually in a store other than Sears one day, when I walked past a demonstration of the Panasonic Bread Bakery (model SD-BT55P) Oh! The Smells... sigh... I didn't need a salesperson, just give me that machine right now! Ok, so I did use the salesperson... I was in Macy's & the salesperson gave me a lecture on all the machines available, what the pros & cons were, & her own recommendation. She recommended the Panasonic over all the others, & we followed it & haven't regretted it ever.
The only thing I wish I had done different is to buy the larger loaf model. We bought the 1 lb loaf maker, but I have since discovered that all of the box (prepackaged) bread mixes are for the 1.5 lb models. If you make all your bread from scratch, this isn't too big of an inconvenience.
The machine came with a book of instructions on 30 different bread recipes, & then we went out & bought 3 more bread books & discovered that we mostly use the Bread Bakery book that came with the machine.
The time difference in making a loaf of bread from a package mix, or gathering up the ingredients to make your own kind of bread is about 4 minutes. It takes just about a minute to cut open the package, add water & pour the yeast in, or about 5 minutes to dump flour, honey, oil, salt , water, & yeast in for my own french bread!
The machine comes with 4 basic bread modes & 3 whole wheat modes (you can just make your own dough with either mode & bake your own fancy loaves). Also, I can set everything up at night, use the timer & in the morning have fresh bread!
I use the Rapid (3 hour) mode a lot, but with the basic bread mode:
5 minutes to assemble the ingredients. 4 hours to bake. Hot, fresh, heavenly bread anytime.
