waldo53's Full Review: Waring MBB518SS Professional 2-Speed Blender
Overall I love my new blender and have been using it for about a month. I drink 2-3 protein drinks a day and it works great for that. Even when adding lots of peanut butter and frozen raspberries. It makes a smooth drink in seconds, my old blender was never able to handle those items in the drink. If you have never blended a protein drink they are thick and hard to blend. Many a cheap blender has bitten the dust blending a protein drink.
Features
This is very simple design for a blender. Basically you have a switch with 3 positions. Off, low and high. I'm not convinced you need more then that, my Oester had about 20 speeds and I don't think I ever used more then 2. Low on this blender if enough to turn peanut butter, milk frozen raspberries and protein powder into a shake in seconds. High can turn ice chunks into powdered ice in seconds.
The blender comes with a glass carafe, not plastic. My old blender was plastic and stained badly when blending tomatoes. The lid is plastic though.
The base is very heavy which is a very good thing. A top heavy blender can tip, I have had one and it did. This one has a low center of gravity and its heavy, it's not tipping over very easily.
Warranty
5 year warranty on the motor and 1 year on the rest of the appliance. According to the terms if you lose the receipt the motor warranty runs 24 months from date of manufacture.
Overall Construction
The blender is very well built. Extremely heavy and very simple. Not much to break. Even the switch is a simple industrial style toggle switch.
It's made in the USA. Some people care and others don't. If you do then this is one of your few choices for a blender.
A Couple of Things to Think About
The blender has a 3 prong plug with a ground. If your outlets are two prong you will need an adapter.
A few more steps to clean. The blade does not remove from the carafe. I run a mixture of water and a non-detergent organic based dish soap through it and then rinse. The carafe is not wide I would suggest getting a brush if you have big hands.
Cons
Its a little loud which I don't mind but just wanted to point it out.
That is really the only con I have found.
Overall I have never owned a better blender and I have owned Oester, Kitchen Aid, others. Good strong blender with a good vintage look and feel.
