"No baby, lets get that high speed model to match the one we already have!" With those words began my latest debate with the wife for a new rice cooker to supplement the one we already owned. I decided this would be a battle that I would let her win and save the "card" for a future more profitable situation.

When you are married to an Asian having friends over on a regular basis is a way of life and when I mean friends I mean half the Asian community so having more than one rice cooker is a must and making sure it is a Zojirushi is like one of the commandments in our family.

While I was enthralled with a 100+ dollar model with all of the bells and whistles, she was looking at the simple one step NHS-10 model. For a whopping 39.95 it did exactly what we needed it to do, COOK RICE!

Simple sturdy construction, this unit will win no awards in cosmetic appearance, but it is very durable and has not caused us any problems for the past 7 months. The unit will cook up to 6 cups of rice at one time and will cook a 3 cup batch from start to finish in about 15 minutes.

Use is simple, for every cup of rice fill the container to the corresponding fill mark in the silver "tub". Three cups of rice means fill the water up to the three mark -AFTER you have filled it with the rice. Press the lever down to cook and in a short period of time the lever will flip back up to WARM with a ding and the rice is near perfect.

Cleaning the cooker takes less than a minute as all is required is the removal of the gray cooking tub and glass cover, a quick application of a soapy sponge and rinse. No scrubbing or soaking necessary and the two items are dishwasher safe. DO NOT immerse the main unit in water or you risk having to go out and buy a new one. To clean the interior of the main unit I simply invert it so that food debris comes out and then a quick wipe down is all that is necessary.

My parents have a very similar model and it has lasted 10 years although they do not use as much as we use ours.
