Pros: Simple, stylish rice cooker. Has a keep warm button.
Cons: Messy cooking.
The Bottom Line: I can not recommend this cooker because I find the cooking process to be too messy compared to the results I have had with other similar types of rice cookers.
kcouture's Full Review: Zojirushi NHS-10 6-Cup Rice Cooker
In July I was at the Meiji Market in Torrance, CA. when I saw the small Zojirushi rice cookers on sale for $29.95. I didn't really need another one but it was very attractive and had nice features so I bought one.
This is what I like - The body of my cooker is a navy blue aluminum, small gray handles, gray switch button and stainless rimmed clear glass lid with a gray knob on top. The cooker is a nice size for a small family that eats rice almost daily. I can fit 4 cups raw rice into the cooker for a full put of cooked rice however, 3 cups rice to 4 cups water suits us just fine. The cooking method is very simple. You place the rice in the interior cooking pot, rinse and drain as much water out as possible and add the required water. You set the pot of water/rice in the cooker body and press the external button down. When the rice is done the switch automatically flips to "keep warm". Like all the Japanese rice cookers the aluminum interior cooking pots are very easy to clean. The rice is cooked to a pleasant texture and kept warm but not burned for several hours.
The downside - In the glass lid are two small holes that I presume are necessary to vent the steam generated by the cooking rice. When the rice cooks, steam and starchy residue blows out of these small holes and onto the surrounding counter surfaces. At the end of cooking I am left with an additional mess to clean up. I mean the stuff splashes everywhere. I don't see any way around this problem. In contrast, I have an older rice pot, similar in size, that has a very light aluminum and plastic lid. There are no vent holes on top and the steam/goop does not splash out. Instead the heat and moisture is vented by the gentle "bobbing" of the light lid as it loosely bounces on top of the cooker.
As a result of the mess I find myself choosing the older less attractive rice pot when cooking the rice for dinner.
