My mom got this KitchenAid Classic mixer as a gift from some co-workers. Well, she definitely could NOT have asked for a better gift. Seriously, this is the best appliance in our kitchen, not even the stove or the microwave comes close!

It mixes everything very well, and though it doesn't come with very many attachments, the basics are all there (balloon whip, dough hook, paddle) and heck, even if you don't buy any of the pricey attachments it's worth it anyway.
Speaking of attachments, you can get anything from a meat grinder to pasta rollers for this thing. You unscrew the little black projection on the side, and the silver "KitchenAid" logo actually comes off like a button. Then you insert your attachment and voila, you have homemade four-cheese lasagna if you use the pasta roller attachement. YUM.
One downside (if I really *have to* say it...*rolls eyes*) is that the weight of even this smaller mixer is very unweildly...the professional models are even heavier. However, it's that heavy for a reason....you know that it won't fall on your floor because it's walking around, while you go answer the phone as it's mixing! We keep ours on the countertop all the time, you might want to do that and get a stand mixer cover if you have trouble lifting or you just use it a lot and don't want to deal with the trouble if getting it in and out of the cupboard.
If you know a bride that doesn't have one of these, please get her one. Heck, get one for the groom too, and get another for their dog. They'll have enough for their children's children (and puppies' puppies!) and the thing will still probably keep turning out cakes and cookies even after that.
