decent cordless kettle

Written: May 30 '05
Pros:fast boiling time, get about 5 cups of water at times
Cons:You'll get steam while pouring. small mouth opening
The Bottom Line: it's a good electric cordless kettle.

I saw this one listed as the best kettle in the class, which is to my surprise. I've written a review on another electric kettle by kitchenaid, which I thought was better. The reason why I'm using this one now is because my guests have burnt the kitchenaid kettle on the stove by mistake and have burnt the bottom. I'll tell you there have been three incidents. The last guest had bought me this one as a replacement.

I don't see much difference between the two kettles kitchenaid versus cuisinart in terms of how long it takes to boil water. It seems that the cuininart kettle may have a bigger volume, maybe by a cup. I like the sleek design of the kitchenaid though.. But if the round look of cuininart help alarm guests from putting it on the stove somehow, then it's worth it. I would recommend writing a note, if kitchen is where people gather often. (still the last person who burnt the kettle was a Harvard physics professor...)

One thing I don't like about Cuisinart version is that the mouth is small. I would realize while pouring that I needed a little bit more water. I can either open the lid off or put more water through the mouth. Since the kettle is still hot, the safe way is to pour water through the mouth rather than open the lid and get steam right where the handle is located. Since it's small, you have to pour water slowly. This is not the case for kitchenaid.

Another thing is, compared with kitchenaid, you have to tilt the kettle more so that the water pours out. That means you need to be aware that the hot steam will get on your hand. I think it has to do with where the handle is located. For cuisinart, it's located at the top whereas for kitchenaid, it's on the side and tilting just a little will allow water to flow out.

My verdict is I will keep cuininart till another guest burns it, and if it doesn't happen, I will go back to kitchenaid.
