| jenni796's Full Review: M88 Munsey Contemporary Toaster Oven |
I had never heard of the brand name Munsey before my husband came home with a Munsey Contemporary Oven. During the holidays, I am always running out of oven space. I debated on buying a new double wall oven but I couldn't justify the cost or the space it would occupy.
I only need a second oven for Thanksgiving, Christmas and maybe a holiday or two throughout the rest of the year. This small counter size oven was perfect. I can cook a half of a ham (about 6 lbs.) in the Munsey Oven while cooking the turkey in my regular wall oven. It is also great for stuffing, vegetables, or desserts while using the regular oven to prepare the 'main' course.
Some of the features include baking just like a regular oven. You set the temperature dial and let it bake. Broiling is very easy in this oven as well. It is small so it broils steaks and meat very quick. Toasting has never been easier. It has a dial for toast to set the desired 'color' ranging from lightly toasted to dark brown. It has an adjustable rack that can be put in one of two slots depending on what you are cooking and how close you want it from the bake or broil element. The glass door makes it easy to check on your food without opening the door to see how it is doing.
This oven is small enough to store on a shelf in a pantry closet but if you find that you use it a lot, it only takes up about 18 inches of counter space. I have had my oven for over a year and find it very easy to clean. It is also perfect for cooking in the summer when you don't want to heat the kitchen up by using your regular oven.
Now for the cons that I have experienced with the Munsey Contemporary Oven: The outside of the cabinet does get warm and if you bake for long periods of time, make sure you remove anything plastic or meltable from on or around the oven because it will get hot.
You have to watch your food cook carefully for the first few uses on each setting. Toast doesn't toast quite evenly so you have to manually flip it to keep one side from getting burnt if you have it on a medium brown setting. Because the oven is small and the burners are much closer to the food than in a regular oven, large items such as a roast may need to be cut in half to ensure the inside is as well done as the outside.
My final complaint is the oven could be about 2 inches wider. It is just a little too small to fit a lot of my small sized baking pans. I have to use the tiny broiler tray that came with it or fumble through my cabinets to find 'just the right size' pan to fit.
