| sneddren's Full Review: Dirt Devil 08200 Scorpion Handheld Vacuum |
Over the years I've had "dustbuster" type handheld vacuums and was never impressed. In fact, I thought the products were nearly useless...the power was not enough for anything but the smallest jobs and the batteries were so weak that 10 minutes of use was all I ever expected. And they all seemed to lose the ability to re-charge after a few months, which made the entire concept a waste of money.
But I like the idea of a small, portable vacuum to clean up smaller things and started doing a bit of research on the alternatives. There were some highly rated cordless models, but they seemed to run upwards of $50, which is more than I wanted to pay. I finally came across a review (somewhere other than epinions) of the Dirt Devil Scorpion and thought it sounded perfect...other than the fact it was not cordless. The price was right ($20) and the review said it had more power than expected. So I ordered one from Amazon and after a month delay in shipping (the units were backordered), the Dirt Devil Scorpion arrived.
My first impression was very favorable...the unit itself was small and light and the box was full of useful attachments. It comes with a strap (very useful for hanging the vacuum over a shoulder when vacuuming out of the way spots), an extension hose (long enough to use for doorways and ceilings), a crevice attachment and a rug attachment. The cord is about 15 feet or so and is long enough for almost any use, but it would be nice if the cord were longer and had a self-retraction mechanism to wind the cord up internally.
The power is truly incredible...I would guess that this vacuum will clean up anything that a normal full size vacuum will handle. The motor is so strong that it really does torque your hand around when you first start it. I haven't had a chance to empty out the dirt cup but it seems very straightforward and useable.
Overall, for $20, this may be the best value on the market.
