lovehifi's Full Review: Dirt Devil M0896 Quick Power Bagless Handheld Vacu...
I had a nice rechargeable vacuum which I gave to my son. (It was a Black & Decker which I reviewed). We have a car wash/vacuum station at our apartment complex, so I didn't think I'd need a cordless vac any longer. But, the car wash station is closed during the winter months and dirt and filth still collect in our cars which drives me crazy, so I went out looking for a cheap cordless just for that purpose.
Found this Dirt Devil Quick Vacuum. It was the cheapest I could find, under $18 at Walmart stores. That's under $20 out-the-door.
This is a cordless. It is OK, but definitely not for heavier cleaning jobs. Here is the good and bad.
Good: Light weight. Very easy to hold.
Rechargeable. Comes with an adapter which plugs into any wall socket. Also comes with a base which can be wall mounted.
HEPA filter. Filters out fine dust particles that might otherwise blow back into the space being vacuumed.
Crevice Tool. Built into the vacuum. Simply swings outward and then pushed in slightly. Snaps back into place when done. Cannot lose or misplace it.
Easy to hold large handle.
See through dust cup. Easy to disconnect and empty.
Very simple to use. No assembly required. Simple 3 button operation. One button is power. One button is to release the built-in crevice tool. One button is to release the dust cup for emptying. That's it.
Bad: 7.2 Volt rechargeable battery. That's definitely a smaller battery which will be less powerful.
Mediocre suction. Absolutely a weaker cordless vacuum. But still OK. I used it to clean our car's carpeting and floor mats. It picked up the majority of the dirt and tiny pebbles and so on. Mats looked much cleaner.
Red L.E.D. is only indicator. This L.E.D. will not change color when unit is charged. So there is no visual indicator to tell you it is ready to use again.
Crevice tool is rather short. This is typical of such cordless units, so it's not really a fault, per se. In my opinion, the manufacturers need to include a small length of flexible hose which would make cordless vacs much more useful.
Overall, this vacuum is OK for casual use, which is what I believe it is intended anyway.
I was able to clean one car, meaning the front and rear mats and front and rear carpeting before the vac's battery really became weak. That's about average, in my experience with cordless vacs. Even the higher priced powerful cordless units will weaken appreciably for the same job. The difference is they may clean the same area better.
As with other cordless vacs, the unit can be a bit awkward for cleaning tighter spots and/or tight corners. Again, a flexible length of hose with a crevice tool at the end would be more useful.
I am recommending this vac because it is so inexpensive. It was under $20 at its regular price. No need for a sale or buying on the internet and then paying shipping charges. Most cordless units are 2-4 times the cost. For the limited use for which I purchased it, it works for me.
