love my oreck (Reply to this comment)
by katpad
i borrowed a friends oreck because my vacuum died.
i was so impressed with the job it did so i bought the xL2 with the free gifts and must say i am still thrilled with this machine. it makes vacuuming easy and breezy and picks up all the dirt and cat hair(three cats).my carpet is standing upright better now and the carpet looks well groomed.
my bissell carpet steamer died two days ago, so i ordered a oreck rinse and steam cleaner, figured i'd give it a shot seeing the vacuum rocked my world.
the parts are easy to find and bj's sells the bags cheap.
that friend of mine with the oreck has had hers for 15 years,, and she got it used. never repaired never a problem. and if it someday dies she swears she is getting another oreck. can't say i blame her. this is an awesome machine.
my sister has a kirby but i have to say i like my oreck better.

I'm afraid I can't offer any opinion on Oreck's new model, since after my Oreck experience, I never considered giving any of their other products a try. It seems to me, though, that if you're willing to spend $700 on a vacuum, you might do better looking into a Miele. They are lightweight and powerful. The only thing Oreck seemed to have going for it was the lightweight part -- and the portable canister was good, but not good enough to warrant that hefty price tag on the package.
Good luck with whatever you do end up purchasing.

Thanks for the opinion... (Reply to this comment)

I believe we are stuck with ours. When we tried the 30-day home trial--they told me I had to pay to ship it back. I wonder if things have changed. Risk free--hah! I hate the thing. It can't suck up a Cheerio. I brought it in to be repaired today and they tried to sell me a $900 dollar model. Yea, they would give me $75 for mine. I hate Oreck. Thanks again for the review.

Thanks, but I think you have me confused with Beth (forkids). I'll take that as praise, since she's terrific!

The relevance of your remarks to the Oreck vacuum escapes me.

I have been DYING to buy one of these machines for years, but have been reluctant to spend that kind of money. I am so glad that you tried it and posted a review. I can always count on you to help me make decisions on these higher-dollar items. Thanks!

I'm quite calm, thank you, so there is really no need for your "chill" advice. My comment above was meant as a helpful hint to Mr. KrazyKat. As you may have noticed, I did suggest that he write a disagreeing opinion--that is, after all, what the site is primarily intended for. I have no problem whatsoever with someone disagreeing with me; I welcome it. My advice was not about dissenting but rather about not engaging in name calling, and was intended for his benefit as a new member. It does make the Epinions experience a lot more pleasant if you don't have large numbers of people thinking you're a rude person, regardless of whether or not you're seeking "friends." I would have thought that someone who has been a member as long as you have would have realized this by now.

Wow, thanks! This makes a first for me--there have been quite a few people who have joined Epinions just to NR reviews I've written that they disagree with. I see you just joined today, so I'm honored by your positive response. Thanks again.

Excellent Review (Reply to this comment)
by 50ftqueenie
This is exactly the kind of review I want to read when I come to epinions: direct, honest and no b.s. It doesn't matter to me whether the author agrees or disagrees with my assessment; I just want to hear well thought out comments either way. Nice job!

I notice that you just joined Epinions today. It would seem from the tone and number of all your comments here that you must really love your Oreck vacuum. I can't imagine why, but to each his/her own.
Might I suggest that rather than leaving insulting comments on my review you might wish to consider writing an opinion of your own on why you believe the Oreck is a great vacuum. I had my reasons for disliking it. You have an equal opportunity to write your point of view in an opinion, too.
Just a word of advice though, seeing as how you're a new member. Calling people uneducated and dishonest is not a great way to win friends on this site.

I found you way off base did you ever read other brand owners manual The do's and don'ts are all the same. Replacement parts are not expensive. You can get them at any Vacuum store not just an ORECK store. I can't beleave that you mentioned the Oreck not having a pedal to release the vacuum. If you pulled back on the handle then pushed the vacuum forward it would have released. Opinions suck when they are un educated. What kind of warranty came with your crapy Hoover. Hmm

I agree with the author (Reply to this comment)
by djasonw
It is unbelievable how marketing makes people think this vacuum is superior. The author is 100% right and I have no need to write an epinion since it would look like I am plagiarizing this author's work. I wish I had the audacity to return my unit. It actually FLOATS over dirt. I also own a Sharp vacuum (purchased afterwards) that I got on ubid.com for $107!!! The unit seems sturdy, modern looking, and had all the attachments on board. Bottom line?? Caveat Emptor!!

My wife was interested in a new vacuum, and was leaning towards Oreck. I logged on Epinions and read a little. This review definitely changed our minds, especially when we read that all parts and accessories have to come from Oreck.

I'm sorta going in reverse order here, so I've read this one after your latest ones, but all I can say is that I hope you find a lot more Home & Garden category things to write about! You're Great!
