gypsyrose75's Full Review: Hamilton Beach 26400 Waffle Iron
From the earliest of my memories at my Grandmothers Farm, she would make Bacon Waffles for us many kids. The smell carrying through the house like it had a mind of its own, filling our nostrils and stirring us out of bed earlier than ever. We sounded like a herd of cattle rushing down the stairs in our PJ's still. There was never syrup to add to this unique recipe. Just grab them while still hot and run before someone took it first.
That is only memory I have of my Grandmother before she became sick and passed away. And to this day, 23 years later, I can still taste and smell every delicious morsel. She won all our hearts with her simple recipe of waffles.
To me food is more than something to fill an empty stomach. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were family ordeals when I was a kid. The same goes for how my children are raised now. So to serve something bland says a lot.
Product
Proctor Silex has a reputation for quality products for a good price. During one of my many Wal-Mart sprees I spotted this in a stack of many others when I realized that I don't own a Waffle Maker. Advertised for "Easy Clean Up, Quick And Easy Meals, Guaranteed Quality." Well I just couldn't leave it there. I purchased this for under 20.00 so, home bound I went, anxious to try out my new kitchen toy.
Use
Simple to use is not enough to say. Just plug it in, when it reaches the right cooking temperature the Yellow 'Preheat Light' turns off. Open the lid, spray cooking spray (I use stick butter for the golden look) on the top and bottom for sticking. Apply batter, close top. And when the steam stops coming out of the sides, it is done. Open the lid, take out the finished waffle and serve as desired.
Close lid to reheat before repeating.
Cleaning
Use soap and warm water on a sponge or rag, wipe down. Rinse cloth and wipe off residue.
When done with use, you will probably notice drops of non-stick spray/butter. Primarily from lifting the lid up and down. By now you most likely dripped some batter on it too. The top and bottom is made of a thick durable plastic. Caution, it does get hot during use. Unplug and let cool before cleaning. The grids are made of no-stick surface soleplate, so cleaning is very easy. Warm water and cloth, wipe down.
Cooking
Along with the standard recipe for waffles (pancakes). This also comes with a mini-recipe book of its own.
~Weekend Waffles
~Buttermilk Waffles
~Banana Sour Cream Waffles
~Cinnamon-Raisin Waffles
~Crispy Ginger Ale Waffles
~Chocolate Dessert Waffles
Cooking times vary pending ingredients. Higher volume, longer cooking time. For basic waffles it takes 3-4 minutes to perfect golden brown, fluffy inside.
Serving Size
For one batch of dough, it will make 5-6 full size waffles. Using the suggested 2/3-3/4 cup amount of batter. One waffle will usually fill a child, my husband eats 3 to 4. I usually have to make a double batch to fill my family. The best part is you can make as many as you want and freeze them. Reheat is simple, place in toaster or toaster oven. They don't fit in the toaster very well, so my kids just pop one in the microwave for 10 seconds and snack on it.
This is a must have for anyone who likes pancakes, muffins, and waffles of the like. You can add a can of blueberries for extra flavor. Pretty much your imagination is the limit.
Quick cooking time, easy clean up, budget smart meals (any time), you can't go wrong with a Waffle Maker. I have had this for almost a year and not a single problem yet.
**Memories are never forgotten when they have something to cling to. Such as my Grandmother and her Special Waffles.**
