| calwaone's Full Review: Frigidaire FWT449 Washer |
The Frigidaire Front Load Washer FWT449 is my choice, way ahead of the Maytag front loader. . .for many reasons. First of all, I never saw it as costly as it is marked, here. The regular price would more likely be $699.95 on the West Coast, at least. That is quite the savings, when you consider how much the Maytag front load washer is!
Frigidaire's FWT449 does allow you to stack it (in case you have a shortage of width space, or just prefer to have your dryer above your washer), stowe it (in case you need or prefer to have your washer under a counter space, without burning up the motor to do it!), or to leave it alone (just place it side by side with your dryer). That is a pretty good start with options, I think. This machine does an excellent job in cleaning, and it doesn't use any visual tricks to do so. I have mentioned, before, that I truly dislike the way that Maytag's front loader is a visual 'trick'. The Maytag's door is so large and so slanted that it makes the inside of the washer drum appear to be gigantic, when it isn't. The Frigidaire is stainless, huge, and works beautifully, without the gimmicks. I like that. Frigidaire is not having any problem with the rubber collar around the front of the door, either, and I like that.
The Frigidaire Front Loading FWT449 uses only a tiny amount of detergent, (that amount being marked on the machine), a teeny amount of fabric softener, if you prefer; and a squinch of bleach. . .if you desire. It will save you money by using less of these products, as well as using so much less water than your standard washer that P.G.& E. gives it an energy star rating. There is no agitator to hit your wash at each turn of the tub, making the wear and tear on your wash, much easier. Your wash is simply allowed to tumble and to turn with no resistance! Do front load washers clean better than top load washers, you may ask? Normally, yes, yes, and yes! (The only exception I would have for this would be the Fisher & Paykel top load washer). The spin cycle is around 1000 RPM for the heavy duty wash, less for permanent press or gentle, of course. The higher the revolutions per minute on the spin cycle, the less time your wash will require in the dryer, as it will not be dripping when it 'hits' the dryer! So, you save money all the way around, by not needing to have your wash in the dryer so long! (That's easier on your wash, too--less wear and tear, the less it is in the dryer).
Frigidaire Front Loading FWT449 is a well built machine that will do an honest job for you. No gimmicks, no visual tricks, just a great motor in a machine you can trust, that will wash your clothes with ease. Is it better than the Maytag front loader? In my opinion, yes! The Maytag still has that water in the rubber collar problem; so, unless you plan to be washing out that collar with water and bleach each time you use your machine, buy a Frigidaire! It will cost you hundreds of dollars less and will do as much wash, as clean as the Maytag will, without having any telltale mildew smell, when it is done!
Go with the winner. . . go with Frigidaire Front Loading FWT449, and don't worry about where you need to place your washer or how the wash will smell when it is done. Keep some money in your pocket, too! It is less expensive than advertised, here!
