Pros:Cleans great, fairly lightweight, works for carpet and hard floors.  Bagless

Cons:Changing to the attachments is a pain.  No height adjustment.

The Bottom Line: This is a really good mid-range choice, not as pricy as some of the top models.  Yet, it cleans quite well.

Hoover Windtunnel Air Bagless Upright, UH70400

My family has seen our fair share of vacuums. We’ve tried the cheap ones, and we’ve tried the expensive ones. After our recent one died, my wife and I tried to find one with a good balance of price and performance. After reading a lot of reviews, we chose this one.

The Good:

The Hoover Windtunnel is not too heavy. This was one of the problems that we had with some of the bigger, pricier models in the past. Especially for my wife, we needed a vacuum that was easy to use. My wife can control this one easily, and it’s certainly no problem for me.
The suction is quite strong as well. So strong in fact that when you’re vacuuming a rug it starts to bog down a little because of the grip. The beater bar really help pick up the trash off the floor as well. One function that I haven’t seen before is that as you’re vacuuming, if you stand the vacuuming handle almost straight up, the beater bar automatically shuts off.

Being bagless, you don’t have to spend $ to replace bags. Just empty the cannister and keep on going. So if you don’t mind a little dust, this is certainly more economical.

It’s versatile, being able to be used on both hard floors as well as carpet. Simply push a button and you can turn the beater bar off for hard floors. It’s versatile as well in that you can adjust the length of the handle height, which comes in handy for us since there’s a pretty good height difference between me and my wife.

The Nothing Bad, but Things I Might Change:

There is only one height for the vacuum, no adjustment. Although the preset height is fine for hard floors or carpet, I would like to raise it when doing a rug for example. Since we don’t have but one rug in our house, it’s not a major problem but something you might want to consider if you have more.

The biggest aggravation for me is the extension hoses. They work fine, and the accordion type hoses extend several feet. There is a crevice tool/brush combo too. Yet, when it’s time to use them. You have to unhook one hose from the main part of the vacuum, and then clip two other pieces to it. Once connected, it works great. It’s just a hassle to do, especially when you only need to suck up a few things. Makes you think, “Is it really worth time?”

The price may be a turn off for some people, being around $150. Of course I’d like to get it cheaper, but I think you’re getting a quality vacuum.

One last minor detail, be careful if you’re taking off the beater bar. I took mine off recently to clean the hair and other debris that had wrapped around it. It was a fairly easy process- remove about 6 screws and unhook the drive belt. I cleaned the trash off and got ready to reinstall when I realized that a bracket on the end of the bar was missing. There is a small plastic one on each end and they just slide in (not permanently attached). While cleaning, one had fallen into the trash can. So, after digging awhile, I found it and attached it with no problem. Just be careful not to lose yours.

All in all, I’ve been very pleased with the vacuum. It cleans really well, is bagless, and is light enough for my wife to use as well. If you’re looking for a good mid-range choice, I would certainly recommend this one.
