Pros: CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN floors!
Cons: water tank does not dry out easily
My husband purchased me the Hoover Steam Cleaner without telling me. I have to admit mild annoyance, however I do know it is a hassle digging out the mop and bucket every time the kids go down for a nap. After watching an infomercial on it, he must have decided to go for it because it arrived on my doorstep a week or two later.
We like the fact that it disinfects and kills or removes greater than 90% of bacteria and it can be used on vinyl, tile, carpet and sealed hardwood floors.
Assembly and Parts
Assembly was so easy....all that was involved was snapping the handle into the body of the steam cleaner until it clicked. That's it. A+ for ease of assembly.
I received 3 cleaning pads, two meant for multisurface and one for hard surfaces. A 8 oz bottle of cleaner and a hard water filter (preassembled into the steam cleaner), a triangular shape cooling base and a carpet glider also completed the components.
The power cord is amazingly long at 30 feet.
An instruction manual is provided and should be read before first use. It is 14 pages of helpful information. It provides details on how you should properly use the steam cleaner as well as tips for troubleshooting if there are issues. It also warns never to leave the steam cleaner sit on the floor while in use as it could damage floors, which is something I may have done if I had not been forewarned. It is printed in English, Spanish and French.
Filling the tiny solution tank and the separate tiny water container were easy. I was hesitant at exactly how tiny the tanks were, but the solution tank hold about 8 oz (the entire container of cleaner that came with the steam cleaner) and the water tank is about twice the size of the solution tank. Trust me though, do not let the tiny size fool you. It will clean a lot of area with little water. Just lift out the solution or water container, turn the cap, fill and replace the cap. A few drops will leak, per the manual, and I found this to be true but it stops almost immediately. Slide the container back into place and you're ready to start.
Press the on button and wait 30 seconds for the steam indicator to light up so you know it's ready to start and you're ready to mop. There is a trigger on the handle to initiate the steam. A dial is on the front to adjust the level of cleaning solution you want. It goes from High to Off. Turn to off if you only want to steam clean your floors. High will allow for disinfecting.
I love the fact that it mops my floors and yes, they are wet afterwards but it's not puddles afterwards. With small kids, I'm glad to have something that I can whip out at nap time and in less than an hour, I can have the house reassembled and floors dry before the kiddos wake up.
The steam works great and it is surprisingly quiet. I didn't really know what to expect it to sound like, I'm guessing I thought it would be equivalent to a vaccuum cleaner but not so. It makes some odd noises, kind of like static on a radio but it works good and that's all that matters to me.
There are two types of mop heads provided, one for hard surfaces and the other for multisurfaces. It adheres like Velcro to the machine and seems almost impossible to detach it while cleaning. It stays in place perfectly until I'm ready to remove the pad. When finished mopping and the steam cleaner has cooled down, you can step on a corner of the cleaning pad to remove it from the steam cleaner and wash it in the washing machine on warm. Wash after every use to prevent mold and mildew. Let the pads air dry per the instruction manual.
The water tank needs to be emptied and air dried after every use. Cleaning solution can be left for two weeks but longer storage is not recommended in the machine. Same as the cleaning pads - rinse after every use to prevent mold and mildew.
My floors are clean. My floors are now really clean. I am so pleased to have gotten this steam cleaner. It doesn't drip water all over my floor like others have in the past, it holds up to the manufacturer's claims about easily cleaning. The triangular shaped head of the cleaner is on a ball socket and swivels around for super easy cleaning and slides into corners and along walls. It is extremely light weight at 11 lbs making me feel like I can toss it around.
I used it on my heavy traffic area and in 4 to 6 swipes (the manual does state it may take a minimum of 4 strokes at a medium pace to clean) and the dirt vanishes. Under my kids chairs where there are tons of left over dinner treasures stuck to the floor, I find that it may be closer to 10 swipes but it does come up.
I am very pleased with my Hoover Twin Tank Steam Mop. I would not hesitate to buy it again as it has made cleaning the floors a much less tedious task.
