| foood4thought's Full Review: Hewlett Packard PhotoSmart 7550 InkJet Printer |
I picked this printer up at Walmart the other day. It was marked down from $299 to $160! I took the last one on the shelf and drove home.
Setting up this printer was a breeze! Install the drivers, install the ink, and plug in the power and USB cable. That's all you have to do!
Because this printer features a media reader ( it reads compact flash, memmory stick, multimedia card, secure digital, and smart media), it lets you print directly from a flash card. HP calls this "direct printing". The LCD lets you preview your picture before you print it.
The print quality is excellent thanks to 7 color printing technology. The 4x6 picture of my dad's car was flawless. This was printed on HP's premium plus photo paper at the absolute highest quality. It took about a minute to print. If you don't use HP's paper, don't expect prints of this quality.
HP claims it prints 12ppm. On legal paper with quality set to "normal", I'd say it prints 6-10 ppm with it being closer to the "6" than the "10". Still fast, but not as fast as advertised.
I don't know how much ink the printer uses, but I'll let you know soon as I run through a tank. But the ink prices are reasonable. Black runs 20 bucks, the photo is 25, and color is 35.
Another cool feature lets you use the printer in "reserve" mode if you're missing an ink tank. To save money, I leave the photo ink out during normal printing. When I want to print photos off digital camera, I pop in the extra ink.
At a 160 dollars, the price is excellent. However, don't expect to get this printer at that price. It really costs $299. You may get lucky, but I doubt it.
Just for referance:
In normal quality, it prints a hair faster than my old photosmart 1115. In draft, the 1115 beats it. And it does it by a long shot.
