babe4289's Full Review: iRobot 5900 Scooba Robotic Wet/Dry Vacuum
I finally decided to try the famous Scooba that everyone was talking about. I was afraid at first, especially when I found out it cost $300-$400. I bought mine for $300 at Sam's Club. Boy am I glad I did. This is the best investment I've ever made. It vacuums, scrubs, mops and dries all in one. What more can you ask for.
It is very easy to set up and use. Once you get your Scooba you need to charge the battery overnight for the first time. After that it only takes you four hours to charge and sometimes will last for two cleanings. Once you are charged you are ready to go.
To set up all you need to do is remove the tank add water and the special solution then reassemble. No need for buckets of water and straining your back. The Scooba uses clean water to clean the floors not dirty water in a mop bucket.
It will perform four different functions in one pass. It vacuums loose dirt and crumbs, then sprays the special formula on the floor. The spinning brush will scrub the floor and is then sucked up to the dirty water tank. Leaving you floors with a nice clean smell and shine with no residue and pretty dry. You might want to scrub the tougher spots first. I've found out it doesn't get those to well. Also, it is to big to get under the edge of the cabinets so it leaves a strip a few inches wide of dirt, crumbs, etc. It has several sensors so it won't fall down the stairs and it comes with a virtual wall device that will allow you to block off an area. It seems to work better in an open area so I usually move my chairs out before I begin to clean. You won't believe how well it cleans the grout lines too.
In about 45 minutes you will have amazing looking floors. The Scooba will tell when it is done cleaning and it knows which spots have already been done so it will not keep going over them.
Once you are done all you need to do is disassemble, empty the dirty water from the tank and clean the filter and brushes. Before I started to clean I thought the floors looked pretty clean that was until I emptied the dirty water into the sink. Wow was it dirty. I had a little trouble shaking out all the dirty water but it was no big deal for the great job that it did.
The Scooba weighs about ten pounds and twenty when its full of dirty water. You can only use the special Scooba Clorox cleaning solution or you will void the one year warranty. The solution only costs $6 for a 32oz bottle and you only use about 2oz each cleaning so I thinks its well worth it.
Overall I am very pleased with the Scooba. A whole lot better than hiring a maid. So if you don't mind dishing out a little dough then I would definitely recommend you purchasing this product. Your floors get cleaner, gives you more time to focus on something else. Well not at first because the first few times you are so amazed at what it does that you can't help but sit there and watch.
