kbolton72's Full Review: iRobot 5900 Scooba Robotic Wet/Dry Vacuum
The fun that comes with remodeling an entire home is the fun of cleaning up!! Top to bottom, corner to corner, I am knee deep in the midst of a mini-hurricane!
Luckily for me, I have the iRobot 5900 Scooba Robotic Wet/Dry Vacuum! We are tearing apart the house we have lived in for over 12 years and putting it back together for the new owners who will benefit from all our labor! Included in this gutting is, tearing up carpet, putting in new carpet, putting down parquet flooring, sanding it and then staining, staining cupboards, painting walls, putting in new plumbing, new moulding, the works. With all of that going on, it is too hard to have my clunky vacuum and steam cleaner in arms reach all with me, so I have this adorable little mean machine!
This thin, circular wonder machine can wash, prep, scrub down and dry in one roll. Just press the power button and you are ready to go! It cleans under furniture where normal vacuums and mops do not venture. It seperates the dirty water coming in from the clean water going out.
The first step is Prep ~ You do not have to sweep the floor of dust or crumbs, iRobot does it for you. Next the machine washes the floor with the special solution made from clorox, scooba solution and water. The third step is scrubbing, with the Scooba's special brushes that spin at 1,500 revolutions a minute! And don't worry, before you run to get the towels to dry up, the residued water has already been sucked up and put into the "dirty" tank.
And have no fear, you do not have to babysit this robot! He will cover wall to wall, criss cross over rooms seeking new areas to clean, it's spiral mode going over large areas of your home over and over until it feels confident that it has done it's job! With the infrared sensors, it knows how to move around furniture, turning away from stairs and other obstacles. I had more of an obstacle trying to get things out of the way and off the floor! It is great because while it is tough, it is safe to use on hardwood floors and does not scratch or scrape them. As far as using it, it is pretty self-serving, just fill it up with the solution, press the power button, then clean button, and it is on it's way! It takes about an hour to run it's course.
It takes about 3 hours to charge it..I usually just put it on the charger right when I am done. Easy to store! We currently live in a 1,200 square foot home and it covers front to back in one run!
It can hold alot of solution and alot of dirty water in either tank. You can pour in down the toilet when finished. It takes the stress off of having to do that whole "mop and bucket" thing! Even Swiffer doesn't hold a candle! I wish I had this when my boys were toddlers, it would have came in so handy!! Great for busy, active families!
