npisarev's Full Review: iRobot 5900 Scooba Robotic Wet/Dry Vacuum
I bought Scooba 5900 a year ago. This device can mop only one room at a time, and, unlike Roomba, it requires maintenance both before and after each cycle. Before the cleaning, you need to detach the tank, pour the solution and water, and attach it back. After the cleaning, you need to detach the tank, empty it (but the dirty water doesn't get out easily, you need to shake the tank to get rid of most of it), remove 3 parts, rinse them, throw the dust in the garbage, wash the downside of the Scooba (it gets dirty), and assemble it all. Altogether, it is not much easier than cleaning one room manually. Scooba would be moderately useful if, and only if, it would run smooth without any problems. Unfortunately, this isn't the case.
1. The dust bin is tiny (about 1*2*6 cm, or 0.5*1*2.5 in.) Unless your floor is pretty clean of dust, Scooba doesn't work.
2. The manufacturer's claim that Scooba can wash 500 sq. feet, is exaggerated. Scooba never succeeded to clean my biggest room, which is 150 sq. feet, satisfactory. It sometimes succeeded with the 100 sq. feet room and had no problems with the 50 sq. feet room.
3. Sometimes Scooba refuses to pour clean water, and just moves around the room until you stop it.
4. Sometimes it cleans the same spot again and again, until it runs out of the water.
5. Sometimes it pours dirty water.
6. Sometimes it leaves dirty traces.
7. It tries to dry the floor, but the floor remains wet. When you switch off the device, you leave dirty marks with your shoes. You cannot just leave it until the floor is dry, because after the device finishes its work, it makes annoying noises until you approach it. There is no option to switch off the noises.
8. It doesn't clean spots near the wall. You should clean them manually.
9. After a year, it stopped to work (battery runs out of the power after 3-5 minutes).
