| unheimlich's Full Review: iSkin iPod Skin for iPod Video 60/80GB - Black/ Re... |
The rich black color and the stark red dial on this first rate skin for the classic (60/80 GB or "video") iPod is the gothiest of the goth-looking iSkins. Based on looks alone, it makes the iPod look cooler than it already is. But don't judge it by looks alone... judge it by how WONDERFULLY STRONG it is, and how SECURELY it protects your cherished music machine!
When I first saw the evo3 black/red (which was listed as a "special edition" release when I bought it), I balked at the pricetag: $39! That was something like 1/5 of what I paid for the iPod itself! But as I shopped around, I couldn't get it out my mind... it was the best-looking cae I'd seen, and it seemed the most sturdy of the bunch. Figuring that I would never feel safe about that large glass video screen that was on the front of the iPod, I decided that buying this skin would be the only thing to calm my nerves and allow me to risk carrying my iPod around. And I have been happy ever since.
One of the concerns about the evo3 is that it comes with a flat clear plastic plate that the remainder of the rubberized case holds in place, resting above the device. I was worried it would get scratched up or smeary and not allow me to see the video screen after long periods of use, or that it might reduce the visual quality. My concerns were unwarranted: the plastic plate is a lifesaver and I can see through it so perfectly I forget that it's there.
That cool red circle that covers the dial is completely enclosed, so that the famous iPod play button is kept safe not only from fingerprints, but also from liquids. It does not detract from any abilities to press buttons -- indeed, it makes the iPod button more tactile and user-friendly! I can feel it like braille when I press play.
The skin has some thin areas around the video screen, but I have only once snagged a corner and risked pulling off the skin. But I know its a lot tighter and more rugged than so many of the other flimsy skins I looked at in the store. It also has a belt hook that swivels nicely...and is easy to snap in and out (I removed it from mine...I don't like belts!).
If you're looking for a skin, get this one...you won't be disappointed.
