Pros: holds 2 liter bottle upright, keeps items cold
Cons: lid falls off constantly, no drain plug, no cup holders
At the beginning of racing season this year I decided I wanted another cooler. We already had a cooler but during the hot months, one cooler of drinks is just not enough. So I went on a search for a second cooler. I was a bit surprised when I started pricing coolers. I hadn’t purchased a cooler in years and they were a lot more expensive then I expected. I was at Wal-Mart one day for a few things when I spotted the Igloo Island Breeze 48-Quart Cooler. It was priced a lot better than other coolers I had looked at. I knew the Igloo name and figured it was a good cooler so I purchased it.
The Igloo Island Breeze 48-Quart Cooler is a red cooler with a white lid. The lid is slotted to make for easy stacking. It has two white swing up handles that make the cooler easy to carry. It states it will hold up to sixty four 12 ounce cans and ice. I mainly use the cooler for Gatorade and water. I occasionally put food in the cooler too. This cooler also holds a two liter bottle of soda sitting upright which I do like. The cooler measures 25.56” x 14” x 14” and features the cool rising technology which is that the base is elevated so that the cooler does not sit directly on the ground.
There are a few things I don’t like about the Igloo Island Breeze 48-Quart Cooler. One is that it does not have a drain plug. This is not a huge issue but it is a pain to have to lift the cooler and dump out the water/ice when you are done using the cooler. It would be more convenient if it had a drain plug. There are also no cup holders on the lid. Again this isn’t that big of a deal but it would have been nice.
My biggest problem with this cooler is the lid is constantly falling off. It is such a hassle to grab a quick drink out of the cooler, open the cooler and the lid comes off. You then have to fuss with it to get it back on. No it doesn’t take that long and isn’t that difficult but it is such a hassle. I want to open the lid, get a drink and close it back up without having to snap the lid back into place. The lid does fit nice and snug when it is snapped in place.
The Igloo Island Breeze 48-Quart Cooler does claim to keep items cold for three days. We were recently at a three day race. We had both coolers. I would agree that the items stayed cold for three days but the ice did melt within two. Again this isn’t a big problem but don’t advertise something you don’t deliver.
We have used the Igloo Island Breeze Cooler every weekend since March for racing. We have also used it during a picnic over Memorial Day. The cooler is holding up but the lid does get dirty since it is white. With racing our hands are always dirty and the white is hard to keep clean.
I do like that the Igloo Island Breeze Cooler is made in the USA.
I purchased the Igloo Island Breeze 48-Quart Cooler at Wal-Mart for $18.88. I have seen the cooler sold in stores and online.
I like the Igloo Island Breeze Cooler but I don’t. I really wish I would have spent more money and gotten a better cooler. It does the job but the lid is just so frustrating. If the lid would just stay on better, I would be happier with this cooler.
The Igloo Island Breeze 48-Quart Cooler is an OK cooler. I do like that it keeps my items cold but I wish it had a drain plug and the lid would stay on better. I would recommend the Igloo Island Breeze Cooler to others as it is reasonably priced but I’m sure there are better coolers on the market.
