Pros:Wonderful for kids and adults, fast paced, great excitement level, great morals

The Bottom Line: This is a must see for young and old, musical fans or not. Fast paced, great humor, wonderful stories and morals.

Fairy tale characters and story lines run amuck when they go into the woods. This tape is a film version of the on-stage production of Into The Woods. With many familiar names from favorite fairy tales, you find yourself watching in amazement as the many storylines twist and entwine with surprising outcomes.

Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel and a few other characters find out that it is not always best to get what you wish for in this tale that strays from the path of the stories you think you know. Things are not always what they seem in the woods. Princes may be wonderful, but are they who you want to spend forever with? Riches are grand, but will they get you what you want? Being good is not the same as being nice. The morals that are apparent in this twisting tale are obvious yet true.

In a wonderful stage set-up, you find yourself drawn into the woods as each character works to find their true desire in the first act. With seemless, beautiful backgrounds, flawless perfomances of a wonderful line-up of songs and a wonderful aray of stars you follow the stories you've heard since childhood. However, you also find out that things are not always clear and simple in life. A good lesson for both young and old.

Each gets what they desire and find what they believe to be happiness. With spells, curses, humor and music you are drawn in and left breathless. The end of scene one comes to a close with a happily ever after for them all. But it is not as it seems when you begin act two. Is there ever really a happily ever after?

Scene two brings you back to the same characters. Yet...not so happily ever after, for you find them still making wishes. Sometimes it is not always best to get what you wish for because then you may find out that it is not always what is best.

I will not tell you much about the second scene simply because I want to give nothing away. But let me just say that man is a fickle creature and life is not always what it may seem. This musical is captivating from beginning to end. It moves fast enough to keep a young child entertained. The magic and wonder is also eye catching. The story lines, humor and music will draw you into the woods and keep you watching to see what happens next. Some of the humor is a bit adult, but most of the time, it is not something that the children will pick up on.

If you are a fan of broadway musicals, this is a must see and own. If you have never seen a stage production, this is a wonderful introduction. But beware, you may find yourself becoming addicted.

Be careful what you wish for, because you may just get it.
