Pros:Great size, easy to use, way safer than holding phone.
Cons:Okay volume on the road, FM not very utile
The Bottom Line: If you need a hands free unit, which many states now require, this is a great alternative to earpieces. Not perfect but darned good!
This is a very nice unit overall but does have some flaws. Upon arrival, I charged the unit as stated in the manual and it took about an hour to do so. There is a car charger included but not a wall charger. Not really a problem as my cell phone micro USB charger did a fine job.
After charging the unit I first tried it in my Subaru Legacy. It clips to the sun visor easily. I started the Bluetooth on the phone, turned on the Jabra and the two easily found each other and paired. It took about five seconds for the Jabra to download my phone book (170 items). This is not a voice activated unit so you do have to push the call/answer button to make or take a call. I pushed the button, spoke call x and the unit immediately connected to the phone and asked, as Bluetooth does, do you want to call a, no I said, it then asked do you want to call x, I said yes and the call went through no problem. I pushed the button to end the call and the unit announced call ended. I tried a second call and the result was an immediate connection. I'd have to say that over the last few days the make call function works as well as the phone does independently. That is to say it's okay but usually does the roll call to get to the right name.
i tested the FM capability and the connection time was good and the unit announced the connection. It really was as easy as tapping the FM button and setting the unit to an empty frequency. Using the FM mode for phone calls is fine, the sound comes through clearly. The drawback, of course is you cannot use any other function of your radio. Flaw number one, the Bluetooth/FM transmission of music from the phone to the radio is bad...bassy, weak, completely unsatisfying. I went back to listening to my stereo and using the Jabra independently immediately.
Having learned the basics, I took the Jabra out for an actual test drive. Flaw two revealed, the volume that was spectacular sitting in the driveway was merely okay on the road. I could hear, the other party could hear but the volume was not great. My voice clarity was top notch according to the people with whom I spoke. It would be nice to have voice activated calling and answering but tapping the button even while driving is neither hard nor distracting.
After the Subaru I test drove the unit in my Tundra pickup. Flaw three revealed...the clip does not open wide enough to put on the thick Tundra visor. After a few experiments, I settled on placing the unit in the trim at the top of the door. This setup actually makes it easier to hear the unit but harder to get the voice commands to work clearly. Again, I have always disliked the I inexactitude of voice commands with any Bluetooth device and the Jabra is not really different in that regard.
When exiting my vehicles I always turn off the phone Bluetooth to save phone battery. The Jabra shuts itself down to save battery and all you have to do is tap the call/answer button to reactivate the unit when re-entering...very easy.
With the phone book downloaded into the Jabra the unit does announce the name of the caller, a nice feature. If the call is from someone not in your phone book the unit announces the number, again, nice feature.
Overall, this is a very slick unit that needs some more volume and a bigger clip. This is a really great alternative to the earpieces. I hate having that thing stuffed in my ear and think it looks dorky, hence I never used mine. The Jabra I use constantly.
