Pros: He puts things in a clear and concise way that intrigued me.
I have the weirdest way of awakening. If it isn’t my internal alarm clock that starts ringing to let me know, it is morning, my television will come on. Luckily enough, one Sunday morning, I awakened to Joel Osteen preaching unto my heart and I was so pleased with his choice of words and the way he was using his anointing to be a people builder. He communicates strength and sparks a little bit of hope into my life. He is my church before church and I love that he puts real things into perspective in a clear and concise way that really intrigued my mind.
I was interested in picking up one of Joel Osteen’s books and reading it, but decided against getting the written text and to instead pick up the audio version of “Become A Better You: 7 Ways To Improving Your Life Everyday” by Joel Osteen. Listening to the author himself read from his book is more like him giving it to me like it is Sunday morning and I am his congregation. Instead of rocking to jams by my favorite artists, I listened to 5 discs featuring Joel Osteen sharing the spiritual gifts that God deposited into his mind, body and spirit. Each CD was about an hour and a half and it was a really good and positive listen.
There are things in my life that I cannot change even if I wanted to. But it is good to know that the things that I can change are in my control. I could live my life defeated and continue to allow yesterday to make me live with strife but it would chip away at my foundation. So I have decided to focus on the possibilities and to be more determined, according to God’s word. I am passionate about my destiny. So I decided to take on life with a hammer in one hand and a sword in the other. And with sheer determination, I know that all things are possible.
Joel Osteen shed the floodlight of God’s word into every room of my heart. He made me consider the fact that I am made in the image of God and have the DNA of the Almighty God. He used scriptures, his relationship with his wife and the art of storytelling to speak words of faith. He even spoke about his life growing up and the effects his father being a preacher had on him and compared it to running a few laps in the family line marathon, running and passing the baton to your children so they can keep running and pass the baton off to theirs. I actually envisioned it and the idea made sense. Tomorrow is a direct effect of how we live today. His preaching is like a course of study towards a lasting positive change.
My biggest pet peeve in life is people who gossip and I do not know why I let it bother me. I know that regardless of where I go, there is always going to be a hater but I do not deal with it very well. Joel Osteen gave me ideas of better ways to deal with slingers throwing stones at me. He really made me consider my old ways of handling it and it made sense. Getting angry and showing signs of hurt means that the hater accomplished their goals. That is one of the bad habits I need to starve so that I might nourish a better way of thinking about myself because God will pour out his favor on me in spite of my critics . My weapon, the bible, tells me that if they will not accept me, to shake them off as the dust of the earth and I am learning to shake it off and keep looking forward. While remembering the mighty things God has done for us, I can feel the transformation and know that I am getting better as the days go by.
The central theme of Joel Osteen’s sermon CD book was settling for God’s best and enjoying each day to the fullest. He encouraged rising to a new level and choosing to accept the victory. And because I am on a mission of becoming a better caretaker of what I have so that I might establish a habit of becoming a better me, I was so drawn to the inspiring messages that he had to offer me. My will to change is because I know that I am more than a conqueror. And to hear Joel Osteen state true facts that I already should have known like happiness does not depend on circumstances but on will, it made sense why I was listening; I was seeking reassurance.
So I am putting my foot down. I am going to do what Chapter 29 says and Keep Singing the well of joy I have on the inside because it brings peace to my heart and helps me to stay focused on God. I am going to take into account the message in Chapter 19 which says to “Keep Yourself Happy” because there is no stronger truth than the fact that I am responsible for my own happiness. I was very inspired by the story he told about Horatio Spafford and the events that lead him to writing the hymn, “It Is Well With My soul.” Hearing his story encouraged me to let in more life, to trust ithrough the good and through the bad, and to smile as an act of faith.
Joel Osteen goes the extra mile with Chapter 28 that tells people to “Plan for blessings.” This is the section where you will hear Joel Osteen speak about breaking away from negativity and to have a more positive opinion of who I am because of who’s I am. He spoke strongly about receiving the blessings and not the curse. And it is true. I can let the past take over and not receive God’s forgiveness and mercy or I can boldly declare blessings over my life.
From the inside out, “Become A Better You: 7 Ways To Improving Your Life Everyday” is such a victorious listen. And I liked the guitar stroked breaks in between each section and chapter introduced. He had me embracing the Place I am in and going to the father’s arms while being still and knowing that miracles are about to happen in my life. While also building me up to reassure that I am made in God’s perfect tuning, he tries to build a different mindset into the mind of his congregation or listeners. I knew I chose the right television pastor and I like what he has to say. He creates my church away from church and today made the statement true, “Everyday will be Sunday, bye and bye!” Joel Osteen is an awesome preacher and I really like him. This was a great listen.
