The game itself is a hybrid on the rails/third person shooter. When pit (our angel protagonist) takes to the air, frantic on-the-rail segments take place; in which you'll find yourself exhanging fire between various enemies and dodging projectiles as they fly off the 3D screen. I found the air segments to be fanastic. You use the touchscreen to aim, the circle pad to move, and the shoulder buttons to aim. I had little problems with the control scheme until I took the action on the ground, where the game morphed into a third-person shooter. The touchscreen was then used to aim and adjust the camera. It'll some getting used to, but you'll get the hang of it eventually.
There are two areas in which Kid Icarus: Uprising really soars; the multiplayer, and the presentation. The multiplayer functionality is simply astounding. When online, you enagage combat with six players using a plethora of weapons and powers each of which are customizable. Another notable wow factor of Icarus is it its presentation. The menus are simply amazing, and contain a charm only found in the very best of Nintendo's games.
There is also a single-player storyline to follow. The story isn't deep, or interesting, but highly amusing and you'll find yourself highly entertained by the banters between the games lovable characters as they refer to other Nintendo games and wisecrack eachother.
In conclusion, Uprising is an excellent game for both Nintendo enthusiasts and newcomers alike. The multiplayer and enjoyable campaign combine to make a package that hopefully, signifies the resurrection of the Kid Icarus franchise.
