| cuteyjss's Full Review: Sanborn Western Camps |
In 15 days, I am flying back out to Colorado for my 5th year at Sanborn. I have read both reviews on this camp. while they both had their own opinions, here is one about how High Trails (the girl's camp) is today.
During the summers Sanborn is my favorite place to be. I would truly rather be no place else and when I am too old to be going back, I hope to work there as a counselor. Sanborn is a great experience for a girl of any age ( I imagine it is so for the boys too, but I haven't experienced that first hand). Over the past 4 summers there, I have accomplished so many things and met so many goals. Where else could I have hiked over 30 miles of the Colorado trail and 14,000 ft. Mt. Columbia over a 5 day campout and bonded with girls my age from all over the country (and even the world)? None of my other friends go to a camp where I can Climb up steep rock faces one day, climb Colorado's 5th highest peak (La Plata Peak) the next, and bike over 30 miles up and down Vail Pass the following. I am so proud of what I accomplish at Sanborn.
While the out of camp trips take up a lot of your time at High Trails there is still the great, family-like camp community. Each year I have made long-lasting friendships with so many people. The counselors are always very qualified--they are like big sister figures, 2 to every 10 or less girls. The living accommodations, in the girl's case the great cabins, are so cool. Cabin clean up is every morning for an hour, so things stay nice and clean, and illnesses and injuries, while rare, are taken care of nicely at the infirmary. (While reading http://www.epinions.com/content_9778794116 , a review of a male camper's, i noticed he mentioned a strep throat outbreak at camp. this happened one or two years ago and was very uncommon, but was handled well. I also felt this was an unfair portrayal of Big Springs, the boy's camp, while most of the boys who go there enjoy it so much they come back repeatedly.)
I am babbling on and on about sanborn when it is hard to describe. all I can say is that this is such a great place and i have enjoyed it so much. ( I am counting down the days!)
