The Kolcraft Reclining Umbrella Stroller is a lightweight stroller....weighing in at a little under 12 lbs. This stroller has a 3-point seatbelt restraint system, a canopy, 2 separate handle bars with foam cushioning, a 2 position recline, 4 double wheels, and a supportive seat. The fabric that I have is a blue and green plaid and I believe this might be the only fabric choice available (not sure). The canopy is made from a very thin material which does not reflect rain too well since it is more of a fabric used as a canopy which is draped over 2 steel bars. The canopy "flips" over the stroller from the back to cover the infant. When the canopy is in the "stored" position it is in back of the child's seat. This can be somewhat annoying if you happen to put a diaper bag over the handle bars. Another thing I do not like about the canopy is the coverage it provides against the sun. Unless the sun is at an overhead position, the canopy is useless. It barely provides any sun protection.
There are 2 handle bars on this stroller, unlike the single bar now used on many of the other strollers out there. Each handle bar is in a candy-cane shape and is cushioned with a dark blue foam rubber. So far the foam is still in good shape on mine and hasn't fallen off, with only a small percentage of the usual cracks which happen with foam from weather and use. Handle bars are quite comfortable.
This umbrella stroller features a 2 position recline, which is wonderful. There are 2 plastic pieces on each side of the stroller which are attached to the seat backing. The position of these plastic pieces creates the 2 different reclining positions...either the sitting up position or the slight-recline position. The plastic pieces snap off and are then placed on the steel frame of the stroller. If you want the seat in a sitting up position, you must snap the pieces on the front bars. If you want the seat in a slight-recline position, you must snap the pieces on the further back bars. Very easy to use and I've done it many times, even with the baby in the stroller.
Lastly, the stroller features 4 double wheels..all of the wheels on the stroller are double. They are somewhat small but work just fine. The back wheels have brakes...very easy to use and has never failed me yet. I use the brakes ALL the time. I recommend putting the brakes on every time you go to fold the stroller since the stroller can "get away" from you while folding if they aren't locked :o)
This stroller was the only stroller I found for the best price that did not have one of those seats where the child "sunk" into it. The seat on this stroller is great..it is very supportive and this was the decision making choice on my part. I didn't want my child to be sitting in a stroller for hours at a time, possibly, and have no support at all.
I do feel there are some bad points of this umbrella stroller. As I mentioned earlier..the canopy, but besides that, there is NO storage basket! I hate the fact that there is no basket. I end up putting things on the handles which I know I shouldn't do but I have no choice. I make sure that the weight is spread out so the stroller does not tip. Also, the fabric is NOT machine washable. Those little spills and dirt messes have to be spot cleaned. Yesterday I cleaned it very easily using my steam machine...works great and was very fast, even on the canopy.
By the way, to fold the stroller there is a red latch underneath by the back wheels. All you have to do is push the latch to the left with your foot and pull up on the bar. The stroller folds down and when it is closed you snap the closing latch on the frame and YOU'RE DONE!
I've used this stroller through 2 children over a time period of 2 1/2 years and so far it is in still "like new" condition. I use it whenever I go out with my mom since it is narrow and I'm able to throw it in the trunk very easily. I have 2 other BIG strollers and I end up using this one the most. But right now I'm on a mission to find another lightweight stroller that has a better canopy, a basket, and a machine washable seating pad.
