| fransbebe's Full Review: Alvin and the Chipmunks |
I have been watching this cartoon ever since I can remember along with The Smurfs, Rainbow Brite, Carebears, and The Gummibears. Most of these you can still catch on cartoon central. I can still recall like it was yesterday curling up in the morning with my Count Chocula and watching my favorite cartoons.
There are four main characters in this cartoon. Alvin who is the mischeivious chipmunk can be recognized by his red shirt with the embroidered "A". Then there is Simon the studious chipmunk who is always sporting coke bottle glasses. The last chipmunk is Theodore who is the food lover of the house and can be recognized by his chubby body. The final character is David Seville their father figure who raises them after they have been abandoned. You can usually find him at his piano because he is a songwriter.
After a while the writers decided to add four more characters to the lineup. Some genius realized there needed to be some girl counterparts for these chipmunks and so came the chipettes. Brittney is the girl counterpart to Alvin. She is snotty, stuck-up, rotten, and popular. Then Theadore's counterpart Eleanor is bubbly, chubby, and cute. Finally Simon's girl is Jeannete who is smart and wears glasses like a librarian. The chipettes also have a guardian who is a wacky grandmother, human, and drives a pink Cadillac.
Not only do the Chipmunks have a cartoon they also have done a movie. Which is about a scheme the boys pull that backfires and sends them running from a couple of criminals. The chipettes are also in this movie. They also have a few songs out one of which I hear at Christmas time every year. Their songs sound exactly like a chipmunk whose tail is being pulled.... ironic huh?
This show is suitable for small children there is no profanity or violence. I would like to share with you one of my favorite episodes. Alvin schemes to change David's cabin into a mansion so he can impress people. He enlists the help of Simon and Theodore. They fix up the cabin and it looks beautiful. They even get Robin Leach to come interview Alvim for the show Rich and Famous. Everything goes awry though when the camera crew shows up and the house falls apart. It is a hilarious episode. You can only see reruns now but, it is well worth your time.
