If you read my last review on one of my daughter's favorite cartoons Duck Tales you know that I mentioned this one as not for children. This is so true. To me I would not allow my kid to watch this unless he/she were at least 13 if not older. Why you ask? Well that is simple it is extremely violent. Why then would I say that I like this cartoon and watch it on a daily basis almost? That is rather hard to explain. I am an odd person when it comes to interests. I am a huge Japanamation freak and love martial arts. This has both of those things that I enjoy.
Before I get into the actual break down of the show I am going to list some of the characters so as to help those who maybe have not seen this cartoon along better.
Gokou- Super-Seigen who protects Earth from destroyers from other worlds.
Pickelo- He is a Namik who has befriended Gokou and was a teacher to Gohan.
Krinellen- Was taught with Gokou by Master Roushie and Gokou's best friend.
Gohan- Gokou's son and also a part Seigen
Veggeta- Super- Seigen who is mean, cruel, and nasty. He always tries to one up Gokou.
Trunks- Veggeta's son who unlike him is good and just wants to help save earth.
Freeza- A being from another world who can transform to increase his power and in the end destroy's Namik.
Android 17&18- Two androids made by an evil professor who are out to destroy Earth.
Cell- He was also made in a test tube just as the above androids were, but he is more advanced and sucks the essence out of people with his tail. He is out to become all powerful and destroy the universe.
Now that I have mentioned the main characters I will go on with the cartoon. This is on in the afternoons on Cartoon Network from 5-6 Central time. The main character is Gokou who has found out his true powers and does what it takes to keep moving up to the next level of strength and power. He is constantly sought after by beings such as cell and freeza who are out to destroy him. They know that if they can destroy them that there is likely no hope for planet earth. The key is Gokou along with his son and friends protect earth by protecting the 7 dragon balls. What is a dragon ball you ask. Well alone they are nothing, but if you gather all of them together you can summon the great dragon who will grant you wishes. If these dragon balls get into the wrong hands what ever planet the balls are from can and more than likely will be destroyed. That was how freeza finally got it and Namik was destroyed.
While Gokou and his friends do what it takes to keep their powers strong and keep moving up to the next level Veggeta helps, but is always out to prove that he is better than the rest as well as Gokou. He causes more trouble than not most of the time. To help keep their strength up while in a battle they take senzu beans. Not really sure what these are. I only know that they help you get your strength back and keep you alive.
This cartoon is extremely action packed and if you miss one episode you can miss a lot. I should know when I was on vacation I missed three episodes and was totally lost. There are many different battles with different villians from different times as well as universes. It can get difficult to keep up with at times. There has yet to be an episode that I have seen where there has been no blood shed what so ever. In other words if you are not sure you want your child to watch this or not sit down and watch it for yourself. I am glad that my daughter takes a nap at this time so I do not have to worry about it with her. There is enough violence on regular television that I can not stop the least I can do is censor what I do have control over.
I apologize up front for my horrible spelling of the characters and places. I will admit I am not sure that I have spelled them right or not. To find out more about Dragonball Z as well as other chartoons on Toonami (Japanamation) Go to www.cartoonnetwork.com and click on Toonami.
