Pros: Teaches about the importance of family and friendships.
Cons: Not as educational as some other children's T.V. programs geared toward pre-schoolers.
The Bottom Line: While not educationally stimulating, this show does teach important moral lessons to pre-schooler in a non-preachy way.

He's Rolie Polie Olie
My nineteen month old daughter has a new obsession. His name is Olie; Rolie Polie Olie ! He has his own show on the Disney channel and has quickly become a favorite in our house.
We first found out about Olie when my Mother purchased a Winnie the Pooh video for my daughter Rebecca. It came with a sample video of this cute little round robot named Olie and his family. From the moment I put the video on Rebecca was transfixed, she just couldn't take her eyes away from the T.V. screen.
Olie is a robot who is about 5 or 6 years old. He has a little sister named Zowie who I would say is about 2 years of age. There is also Olie's mother, father, his Uncle, and his Grandpa Pappy. Olie has a dog named Spot too. I think my daughter is attracted to this show because of the bright colorful computer animation. She also enjoys the fact that the house and some of the furnishings have facial expressions. For example the T.V. , named Tubie, has eyes and has the ability to move around the house using the legs of the T.V. stand . These furnishings do not talk but they fascinate my daughter anyhow.
While this show does not have the educational value that Barney or Sesame Street does, I believe this show teaches some important lessons without being preachy. It teaches children how to respect and appreciate their family. It teaches them that family time is important and can be fun.
During each show we see Olie and his family members having a good time. Sometimes they are playing games together, sometimes they are dancing , or baking cookies. There is usually some type of subtle lesson taught or problem solved in each show.
Olie also has a friend, Billie who is different from him and his family. While Olie and his family are round robots, his friend and his family are square robots. I like that this program shows children it is okay to have friends who are different than they are physically, but that we are all the same inside. What's important is friendship.
Roli Poli Olie is shown on the Disney channel each weekday at 9:30 AM EST. It is a half hour show which is perfect for it's target audience of 18 months to 3 years old. While your child will not learn his/her ABC's or how to count from this show, he/she will learn valuable life lessons from this show. I highly recommend it for your pre-schooler.

Emily Rose, the young daughter (15 months old) of fellow Epinion member: Amy (ImAmes on Epinions) http://imames.epinions.com/user-imames is dealing with countless doctor appointments, hospital visits, and surgeries due to her battle with Retniblastoma, a form of cancer, which is found in the eye. Most recently, the family has been told that the tumor is still there, and even though the fluid in her eye is growing less, over time the gene in her body has a good chance of producing more tumors through out her body.
I will be donating the proceeds of this epinions to Emily's Wish Upon A Star Fund
Wish upon a star that Emily will be healed, and remember that like in a good Disney flick: GOOD AND KIND WINS OVER EVIL!
