Being a cartoon fanatic, one day I had suddenly realized that I had grown up.
I became 19 years old, and according to society, the only way to be cool is to be savy, have as much sex as possible, going to jail, clubbing, and laugh in a lower tone of voice. Heck, according to society, for adults video games and cartoons are considered nerdy and childish, unless of course, those games are either porn or hentai.
So, I have decided to sacrifice some of my old favorite cartoons:
- Hey Arnold
- Sagwai: The Chinese Saimese Cat
- Blues Clues.
Now with that out of the way, I can resume to my journey to maturity. To do so, I must move from simple, dumbfounded cartoons (i.e. Space Ghost) to a higher level of complicated, intelligence animation (i.e. Hungry Teen Force).
Hooray for maturity!
The Family Guy, like adulthood--just to be fair, the whole world--, is a cartoon that offends religions, racial discrimination, sexual intentions, and evil monkeys.
Peter Griffin is the main character. Like Homer Simpson, he is fat, arrogant, and stupid. The only difference is Peter still have hair, and seem stupider. He is usually the one that starts trouble, but never seem to finish what he started. Peter is also known for his rabbling of words and that weird laugh, "eh-eh-eh-eh-eh".
Louis Griffin is Peter's wife. Born with a silver spoon in her mouth, Louis was tired of the rich life as a young girl. When she met Peter, she fell in love with his charm as a lower class citizen. Other than that, I can't find another reason, since Peter, in my opinion, may be the worst husband/boyfriend if in reality.
Louis is not very bright herself, especially with her relationship with her baby Stewie. After watching many episodes, I have come to a conclusion that Louis do indeed understand most of what Stewie is saying. And what comes out of Stewie besides poop are insults and threats to end his mother's life. But of course, being a loving and clueless mother, Louis just take anything bad as is with a smile.
Meg Griffin is the daughter of the family. Like most teenage girls, she never stop complaining until she gets what she wanted. Or as Brian put it, "She is a little runt, isn't she?"
Chris Griffin is the weird son of the family. At his age, he tend to be fascinated and amazed by hand puppets. Also creative and loving, Chris sacrifice a lot to show the one he loved that he cares.
Stewie is the baby of the family. With a giant football for a head, this baby was born with a child-like intention to dominate over the world. Unfortunately, he is still dependent on Louis. Call it a Napoleon Complex, perhaps that is why Stewie hates Louis so much.
Brian is the dog of the family. A talking dog with an intelligence higher than Peter's, he is perhaps the voice of reason. He is very much civilized who enjoys a cocktail or two.
Like The Simpsons, there will be subminental messages that only older generations would understand. However, unlike The Simpsons, The Family Guy graphics and messages are so straightforward, that it can offend parents. What I mean is, The Family Guy contains:
Partial nudity and butt-nudity
Example:
After Meg finished complaining about how embarrassing her family is, Peter stepped out of the car butt-naked.
do not censor the word "a$$"
Check every episode. Peter usually says that.
A baby who wants to kill his mother.
Example:
When Stewie tried dead-seriously on his audition for the act "The King and I", Louis laughed and made fun of him. Then Stewie give a blank stare, and said, "You know what mother, I have decided to kill you."
Jews or Judaism, and Catholic comments.
Example:
Peter sang for a Jew a.k.a. an accountant
When Peter tried to get Chris to become a Jew, a group of Catholic nuns armed themselves with rulers to go after them.
Racial comments
Example:
"It was YOU PEOPLE that have caused so much violence and crime in this country" - Peter, in the event of the Million Men March.
Politics and presidents
Example:
"It's okay! It's okay! You may have choked and killed that stripper when you stuffed all that dollar bills down her throat. I don't know. But what I do know is, cigarette did not kill her!" - Peter, in the strip club with the presidents of the U.S.
"BOB DOLE. Bob Dole. bob dole. bob dole...zzzzzzz." - Bob Dole
Broadway singing
Example:
On the way to Rhode Island, Stewie and Brian sang.
The graphics are original, just as the script is. Although it is not as in depth as Futurama, you can still tell what object is what. Each character were drawn differently, so we would recognize each character when he or she enters the scene. For instance, Quagmire is drawn with a skinny body and a big head, which reminds the audience of how he shakes his head like a bopping-head toy and say, "Oh-yea!"
For the partial nudity, it is not detailed as you may think. The women/men are covered, leaving some to imagination. There is not one episode where a woman/man's private parts were exposed. If you want detailed and expose nudity, check hentai. Check japanese animation (i.e. Sailormoon, the japanese episodes).
Conclusion:
Because of the content and graphics, Fox have canceled the cartoon early before its glory. Of course, who are we to say what Fox can or cannot show. They obviously know the good and bad difference between:
- bikini models in Paradise Island
- half-naked airheaded former porn-star Paris Hilton in The Simple Life,
- the hypocritic, boring Boston Republic
- The Great American Celebrity Speller
VS
-The Family Guy.
Anyways, lucky for you, you can see this show on Adult Swim in Cartoon Network. It usually airs around 11:00 p.m., Monday to Thursday.
In contrast to parents opinions, since this cartoon do not show 100% nudity or any obvious offensive message that children CAN understand, I would rate this as an "okay" cartoon to be watched by children over the age of 10. Not that I'm saying you should force him/her to watch it.
If you are a parent, you may say, "But, Blackrose, you just said this cartoon is full of the word a$$? My ten-year old child cannot watch this!"
Yea well, so what. No offense, but we are no longer living in a society where everything is beautiful and pretty. You may be surprised of what your children are learning from their classmates than learning from you. If you don't want your child to watch something, then take control as a parent instead of blaming the network.
Besides, who is teaching your kids: you or your t.v.?
