I was so happy when MadTV debuted b/c SNL had become completely unbearable. Watching it caused me severe mental pain due to its total lack of humor. MadTV came on the scene at exactly the right time. The skits were fresh, crazy, long enough and FUNNY! The first season brought us Cabana Boy, My White Mama, UPS Guy, and a host of other great characters.
This show features a great, talented cast. SNL throughout its history has only had one Black cast member in its main cast base, and only once has it been a Black woman. MadTV has consistently featured three Black cast members on a cast that is much smaller than SNL's. The humor on MadTV is definitely adult in nature. This is not a show for children. MadTV picks up in humor and characters where "In Living Color" left off. I love Miss Swann, the mother and Stewart, Rosa and her friend, and James Brown, Jr. This is one of the few shows that I refuse to miss. The humor is biting, scathing and just crazy. They are starting to have a few more guest appearances and musical acts. But they concentrate on what works - humor! The writers for SNL need to watch this show and get back to basics. I am mad for MadTV!
