| jiastar's Full Review: Blue's Clues |
Blues Clues is one of those shows that, as I watch it with my own children, I wish had been on when I was young.
In a computer-animated world, Steve shares his house with his puppy Blue and an assortment of friends who are household objects come alive.
There is Mr. Salt, Mrs. Pepper and baby Paprika who see to keeping Steve's kitchen in order. They have been known to make Steve chicken soup when he has a cold, or to make a big breakfast for everyone on the morning of their Music Show.
There is Side Table Drawer who holds Steve's Handy Dandy Notebook which he uses to play the game of Blues Clues each day.
There is Mailbox who brings Steve daily messages from children across the country.
There is Slippery, an active and outgoing bar of soap.
And there are 2 of Blue's animal friends:
Magenta - a puppy just like her although in a different shade of fur
and Periwinkle - a frisky kitten who is Steve and Blue's newest neighbor

In each show Blue needs to communicate something to Steve. It might be what game she wants to play. It might be about a surprise for Steve. It could even be a bit of news Blue wants to share. Irregardless the game is always played the same way.
Blue leaves 3 pawprints for Steve to find. Each print marks a clue, which Steve draws into his handy dandy notebook. One he has all 3 clues, Steve sits in his thinking chair until he figures out the mystery. he of course does all this with the help of his TV audience.
The show teaches everything from handling your emotions, to making new friends, to coping with a move. It has also taught my daughter some basics in American Sign Language as well as to use logical reasoning and her powers of deduction.
All in all this is a sweet gentle show which makes both my daughters smile and laugh and feel good about themselves. And I can honestly say that Blue has even been known to brighten my mornings with her friendly yelp.
I hope that it stays on the air for a long long time.

Note: Steve Burns who has played Steve for the past 5 years has announced that he is leaving the show. The episodes have all been taped and Mr. Burn's last episode will air in 2002 at which time he will be replaced by a new host.
The new host is rumored to play Steve's brother Joe. He is, according to Mr. Burns very well suited for the part and very funny.
While I wish Steve Burns the very best in his career, I will miss him coming into my home every morning.
