| merlot's Full Review: Blue's Clues |
Blues Clues is one of my daughters favorite shows, and one I don't feel bad about letting them watch. I know that when Blues Clues is on they are not just staring at the TV like zombies.
Blues Clues is on the cable channel Nickelodeon weekdays at 9:30 am and 12:30 pm. I have seen this show several times, as I am pretty careful about what I will let my girls watch, I like to watch the show myself to see if it is appropriate for their age group and if it is a good quality program.
Blues Clues is sort of an interactive show, it encourages some participation on the part of the child watching the program, which is geared towards preschoolers. Blue is a dog and her owner Steve is kind of the center of the show. He leads children on a quest to find out what Blue is up to. Perhaps they are going to find out what Blue wants to do, or what story she wants to read, or what she wants to eat today.
The show is 30 minutes and consists of finding the clues which Blue has left around. You know you have found a clue when you see Blues pawprint. Once the 3 clues are gathered Steve sits in the thinking chair and encourages the kids to put the clues together to find the answer. He writes the clues down in his handy dandy notebook.
Steve talks to the children through the camera, asking them questions and encouraging them to help him along. There are some kids that answer back which helps to reinforce that your child can talk to Steve too. It is so cute to watch my daughters yelling the answers to Steve.
I really like the fact that this show sort of requires some sort of participation. I love watching my daughters singing the songs and talking to Steve. I love when I hear them say "A Clue, A clue". At least I know they are getting a little something from the show, and using their heads to think about the clues.
Some of the activities that they do on the show are counting, putting things in order, today they are talking about ordinary items and which one "you" think weighs more or less. They do a lot of different educational activities on this show. Also, it is important to note that this show is cute, not at all annoying like some other kids shows.
I know that when I let my daughters watch Blues Clues they are going to think and learn something. They learn songs and counting and all kinds of stuff. If you are going to let your children watch TV, you can let them watch Blues Clues and you can feel good knowing that they are watching something that encourages them to think and help.
