| char.mike's Full Review: Blue's Clues |
Blues Clues is an animated-live action children's program. It plays several times a day on Noggin or Nick Jr. Steve and Blue are the main characters in this program.
Steve (live action human) lives with Blue (animated puppy), they play all day or so it seems, but it's play with a purpose. Blue will leave her paw-prints on objects around the house and Steve, along with the audience of children watching, look for these clues. As the clues are found, Steve draws them in his handy-dandy notebook. Once they have all three clues, they must figure out what Blue wants to do.
Cute songs and saying are repeated in every episode, so your child can always participate in every show. Songs like Mail's Here, gets my daughter up, dancing and singing. After finding all the clues, she knows it time to sit in the thinking chair and "think, think, think".
We have used many of the concepts from Blue's Clues in our everyday life and they really work. Examples being, "go back, go back , go back to where you were" has helped us locate numerous items such as shoes, favorite stuffed toys and even my car keys. I know any of you with kids can appreciate this. As I'm sure you have gone on your own treasure hunts for long-lost items that must be found right now or your darling child will not go to sleep, go to the store etc... I'm sure everyone has had the experience of dragging a reluctant child out the door, while they are screaming for their favorite toy, different shoes or whatever.
I like the fact that it educational and entertaining without being dull or repetitive. My daughter has picked up quite a few interesting facts, like planets from the planets song or understanding why a straw floats.
The program has shown Steve, Blue and friends, shopping and paying for items with blue dollars, guessing what item is heavier, then weighting the different items on a scale to show which is correct, helping the felt friends find the correct clothes for the type of weather, finding lost objects by remembering where you last were, well the list goes on and on.
I highly recommend this program, I think your child will love it as much as mine does and you will too. I also recommend watching this program with your child, shout out the clues, dance , be silly, your child will get much more out of a it with you participating and it is a lot of fun!
