Watching the news is not something I've encouraged my kids to do. You'll soon understand why when you read the paragraph below. Typically, for news I've encouraged them to read the newspaper.
Maybe my kids are a little different from others, but they enjoy watching the local news. I never encouraged them to watch the news, in fact I would turn it off when they were around. I have mixed emotions about some of the graphic images that they are apt to see. And the stories they seem to focus in on are the ones which involve violence and tragedy. The newspaper has far less negative images, so I have encouraged them to read instead of watching television.
When Nick News first came on my oldest son asked if he could stay up to watch it. (It was on past his bedtime). My husband and I watched it with him and we were impressed with the format of the show. Current events are explained in an intelligent manner for kids to understand. Time and time again I have watched this show never to be disappointed.
Nick's idea for this program was unique, innovative and surpasses the evening news kids will typically watch. Geography, politics, cultures and conflicts are discussed in a respectful and enlightening way.
This really is a great show for kids and adults.
