This show is a great learning tool for kids!
When the series first started, it drove me nuts. Mostly because it bumped my son's favorite show, DragonTales, to a half hour later and I had to sit through half an hour of, "When is DragonTales coming on?" But, then he started to watch Between the Lions and I noticed something; this show is great at helping kids learn to read!
Between the Lions shows groups of letters and sounds out what each makes and then puts them together to make words. Then they will take a letter or two off and add a different one, showing how to make different words. I know it sounds simplistic, but it really gets my son's attention and I find him, at 3 years old, sounding out words with them.
Yes, it has the same drawbacks any TV show has. But if your child is going to watch TV, wouldn't you rather they watch something educational like Between the Lions than Pokemon or Power Rangers?
So, if you find yourself plopping your small child in front of the electronic babysitter (LOL), I do recommend Between the Lions. It approaches learning to read in a fun manner that not only attracts a young child's attention, but actually teaches them something in the process.
