| heathers_mom's Full Review: Sesame Street |
My daughter is 2 years old. I remember watching sesame street as a 5 year old.
I understand how people can't explain how a show this old has held it's own against the Blue's Clues and the Tele Tubbies and the Thomas the Train's shows out there.
This show is still great 30 years or more later.
My 2 year old still loves Elmo and Cookie Monster. (The old Cookie Monster. Before they wanted to make him a veggie loving monster.) My 2 year old loves him because he is the Cookie Monster. She loves Elmo because of Elmo's World.
This show still does the letter and the number of the day. I love this show because it has only changed a little bit from when I used to watch it as a child. This show still has Elmo and Grover and Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch and Cookie monster and etc...
If this show wasn't great it wouldn't still be on the air. I'm not from a large city. I'm from a small country town in upstate NY.
I don't care what color anybody is, just like my 2 year old doesn't care what color her favorite monster is.
To tell the truth I am a step-mom of 3 (ages 10, 9 and 7) and a mom of 2 (ages 6 and 2). I myself am 28. At least until this next coming June.
Seseame street is able to keep my 2 year old's attention, my 6 year old's attention, my 7, 9. and 10 year old's attention, not to mention this show was the reason that my husband stayed up all night when Tickle-Me-Elmo came out for the oldest daughter just to grab it off the truck.
All of the kids have been very smart. Maybe it has something to do with genetics. Maybe it has something to do with a time honored show. One that shows diversity, and ways to show that everyone despite their backgrounds, and color or ethnicity, can learn at the same rate.
This show has differed so LITTLE in the last 30 years. They still do the bilingual language. They still show how the monsters can handle diversity. (the monster's by the way don't care whether you have 1 eye or 50 or are blue, red, yellow, green, pink, red or whatever. They still except you. They still believe you are important.)
If you watch this wonderful show you will see that it teaches numbers, letters, diversity, language skills (no, I can still only speak English. But I swear, because of this show I know Agua only becuase of this show. Not because of a year of Spanish class in 9th grade. That class only taught me how to get out of it because I had a headache. And who doesn't like the Count??? Him and that large organ he plays every morning.
I still remember the Lambada song from when my oldest stepdaughter was a baby. I don't know what it is, but this show is wonderful. They have been able to keep my attention for the last 28 years. I truely believe that any show that can keep a show going for 30 or more years and can keep changing with the times and can keep their true purpose alive (teaching America's youth) then they deserve to be a part of the GREATS!!!!
This show has taught me and my children about diversity, about numbers, about letters, about life in general. I still remember the darn ball game when I used to count the kids in my daycare class. (one two three... four five... six seven eight nine... ten eleven twelve...) You remember that pinball game. YES we were only supposed to have 10 kids in a class, but we had eleven. (only for a short time though. and then I had to stop at 10. But this show is different from Barney and from the Boo-Bahhs, and from the Tele Tubbies. This show ISN'T a fad. To get the reall gist of it you are just going to have to watch it for yourself. There really isn't anyother way.
